Have you any favourites / pet hates?

I don't much like any of the current crop, and am still in mourning for Barry Davies.

But I REALLY don't like :

Jonathan Pearce : absurdly verbose and portentous

Garth Crooks : see Jonathan Pearce

Ian Holloway : what is the point of him, on these programmes? He offers no insight at all.

Im not keen on the lady that commentates,Im not being sexist,it just seems so forced and fake excitement from her.
Jim Beglin was on BT Sports the other week and I thought he did well.

Crooks is a pompous arse.
Pearce is a characature of himself!
Pougatch ought to be a commentator!

I never liked John Motson. Too keen on a fact that we all knew anyway.

Barry Davies and David Coleman let the pictures do the talking for them. Now it's a case of filling every second with excitable nonsense to try and keep the fabrication that it's the best League in the world.

Martin Tyler is an exception but that's because he has been around a long time.

I agree Barry Davies was a master. I miss him like I miss CMJ on TMS. Just calm, precise, told you what you needed but with the odd flourish at the right moment.

I actually quite like Jonathan Pearce. I like the way he knows a bit of history outside of the big clubs.

Here's an odd one, I can't stand Clive Tyldesley on the telly, but he's really good on the radio.

The voice I miss most is Peter Jones. I was only about 11 when he packed in but he's still the voice of football to me as I used to listen to every game on the BBC religiously, whatever is was.

I like Connor McNamara on 5live. I also like Scott Reed on lancs, but that's probably because he's really good on the cricket in summer as opposed to his football prowess.

I miss Sir Jim on the radio.

Motson became a parody of himself. He got too wrapped up in his own 'statto' image. He was alright to begin with but he became to enamoured with being the character 'Motty'

I think similar of Alan Green - he never used to do all the cynical whinging about games and just used to commentate.

Pet hate -- Gary Lineker 😠 He contributes nothing to the conversation and is the highest earner at the BBC. What a waste of licence-payers' money.

I watched about ten minutes of the football on Amazon and I couldn't hack it. I can't stand that constant sales pitch, reminding you how lucky you are to have subscribed to watch the greatest league in the world ever. It's just football. Same as it ever was.

I miss Brian Moore. Great call re missing Gentleman Jim as a real expert summariser

He's a totally different character but it's like having Boycott on the cricket. The perspective you get from someone like that is really interesting. Also, to his credit, Sir Jim never became the old bloke who just churned out the same anecdotes to order.

Pearce should stick to Robot Wars. Awful.

Gary Neville is pretty good. Very balanced and knows his onions
