Fuel Prices

Was in Richmond (Rishi Sunak's manor) watching TSSJr3 play cricket yesterday (Hartlepool chasing down 124, with TSSJr3 for the first time holding the innings together after a middle order wobble) I was staggered to see Unleaded 15p/litre and Diesel 10p/litre cheaper than Hartlepool in two independent garages which are normally more expensive than the supermarkets.

Everyone from Hartlepool who was there filled up; sadly for me I only needed half a tank, but for some, it made quite the saving as they were running low.

We are being fleeced.

I was in the Carlisle area last week and it was down to 1.77. Drove to the North West and the big cities are still around 1.85.

Seems like some price fixing on areas is going on.

Petrol: £1.73/litre at Shell (yes, Shell) mini takeaway, Mirfield. I’m told it’s £1.69 in Thornhill.
Any offers on Asda, Blackpool, usually the cheapest on the ‘Gold Coast’?

Yes, I filled up at 177p in Wigton last week. In Penrith it was 1.86 and still is round here.

Seems garages are charging what they want and what they think they can get. Not what is morally and financially appropriate 😖

As an aside, love Richmond, lovely market town 😍 and well done TSSjr3 with regards the cricket 🏏

Filled up at Sainsbury's Blackpool today.
Think I paid about £1.80 for unleaded.

Nice little ground too, with quite a steep embankment within the boundary rope which must be a nightmare to field on. Can't quite see it from this photo.

I'm sure Rishi Sunak fits right in.

Breaking news BP have just announced a £7 billion pound profit for the first quarter this year.
This follows massive profits announced earlier by both Shell and Esso.
Yet us gullible people just sit back and continue to pay record prices at the pumps while the fat cats just get fatter. 🤬

I don’t know if gullible is the right word, but there’s an element of people being hyper-dependent on their car rather than thinking about easy ways to reduce demand.

My understanding is that garages make essentially nothing out of selling fuel, they're only viable because of the shops attached to them.

They make pennies out of selling fuel and because of that the price they pay on the given delivery day they have to sell at until next lot comes which could go up or down.
That's why prices fluctuate between garages.

Our government has reduced fuel tax by 5p, the second lowest in Europe. Germany cut is 25p.

More could be done
