Funeral Plans.

A number of years ago MrsDP and I took out joint funeral plans.
Cost altogether over £6 Gs.
This week we had a letter each, from FRP Advisory Trading (whoever they are) telling us that the company had gone bankrupt.
Bastards.
We've been offered, by an official body of alternative companies who will take us on at a reduced rate (not much reduced)
That's a couple of holidays gone out the window.
Anyone else had problems?

I've seen a few of these Funeral Plans thingy's advertised on the Telly, but I don't really see much point in them, always thought it seemed like an unnecessary risk, by placing your trust in a business with the potential to do exactly what has happened in your case. It seems more sensible to just open a dedicated savings account, if you're that way inclined. Personally I'm not actually planning on dying anyway, but if by chance I do, then they can cart me off in a cardboard box for all I care.

That's alarming Dave. You would think that this kind of business would be covered by a regulatory body in the same way that ABTA covers travel agents in the event of them going bust. Or that they would be regulated as an insurer. Personally I wouldn't touch them with a funeral pole.

They've given us a choice of 2 companies who will take us on at a reduced rate as I said in O/P.
Still will cost a few £Gs.
Also we can appeal to the Administrators for a refund, but won't get anything like the original price paid.
We will be appealing.

One thing we have not done tbh. We are always skint. Maybe I should have a poor persons funeral.

What if the next one goes bust on you Dave?

What benefit do you get by using one of these companies...?

Maybe we were stupid, I don't know.
It seemed like a good idea at the time.
There is a chance that we will get some, not all, of our money back.
Time will tell.

Dave, that's shocking, I feel for you both.

I did read a while ago that the regulations on Funeral Plans had been changed to ensure better liquidity and many companies were threatening to liquidate their businesses.
