Funerals

Mrs Shanks uncles funeral today - it was obviously a somber affair but a couple of things struck me....

Wider families seem to only get together at weddings and funerals - always seem to have so much in common and have so much fun when together so why dont they do it more?

Churches - absolutely havnt got a religious bone in my body but churches have such impressive architecture and the faff that goes with a catholic funeral is something to behold.

Death - when people eulogise about other people they dont speak about how much wealth a person's got - they talk of their kindness, family, laughter and friends and what theyve done to help others. That's the true measure of someones life I think.

My Mother in Law who is 87 has just this last week booked and paid for her funeral. She was able to pick the music and other items she wanted. I thought what a great idea it saves all the hassle for the family doing this sad event once they have departed this world.

I quite like this quick cremations service now being offered - no morbid ceremony or coffin for people to look at - you get hoist away, thrown in the flames and leave your mates to go and have a drink and not have all the emotional stuff that comes with it.

I want to have my funeral whilst I am still alive I can't stand the though of other people drinking without me particularly at my expense. Plus it would be an opportunity to collect money anyone owes me before I croak

Nice thoughts Long Shanks.
Skankster, they'll probably say 'Oh yes I forgot. I'll give it to you next pay day '(month end). 😉
