Gary Madine.......

I like Yates's work rate and a goal will do his confidence no harm but must say I was very impressed the way Madine led the line when he came on. every ball to him stuck and he laid it off well as we pressed forward. The Swindon defence couldn't handle him, he has to be kept on if only as a viable plan B. I couldn't understand why he didn't come on against Plymouth as we faded badly and ran out of ideas the last 15 minutes in complete contrast to yesterday when we deserved a couple more.

The first time I watched the game I didn't see the moment when Mitchell should have squared it to Yates. Now seen it and I don't think it's quite as clear cut as made out. There is a defender in direct line between Mitchell and Yates, and he had a decision to make. He could have checked and slipped it Yates I'm sure, but he was travelling at pace and had no time to decide, really.

From where I was sat in the North West corner it was on for Yates with a simple ball over to him, but ground level and travelling might have been different.

But the point is - for this thread at least - Yates made himself available. I don' t know what else the man can do? If he goes chasing it, he's out of position, if he puts himself in a good position to receive and doesn't, he"s not getting involved.
It's two bloody games!

......did himself no harm at all when he came on. If Gary Yates is a “pest”, nipping and scrapping, Gary Madine is the cement that held the front line together. NC will be in no hurry to unload him after today. What a difference he made once he came on.
I can see those two and CJ making up the front three. Not all good news; Pool couldn’t keep the ball in the first half, and could easily have gone behind, and I’m not comfortable watching Notts and Marvin together. Even Scott Reid commented that they are too flat. We might yet see Thornilly.
From what little I saw of Thorniley against Blackburn, it's a huge thumbs down from me.

Unfortunately we've got Yates who is a 1 goal every 3 games striker and Madine who is a 1 in 4 at best.
If CJ's goals dry up (and he's not the main forward) then we're looking at a very barren spell.
To be frank the whole team should sharpen up, what do they say, You don't win the raffle if you don't buy a ticket?
Buy more tickets, shoot shoot shoot!!!

We've have the third most shots in the Division to date.

A bit harsh Wizzer. We all saw Yates get into a perfect position to score on Saturday but Mitchell went alone. It's the quality of decision-making that will lead to more goals. That will improve as we get more games under our belt.

Would Madine and Yates ever work as a partnership?
The Madine cameo from the Swindon match would I believe work with Yates. The Madine we saw pre season would be better shipped out.
Madine has the attributes to be one of the best strikers in L1 if he applies himself and the entire front line would benefit from his hold up play and lay offs

One Swindon fan on their forum said Yates was playing in the wrong position for us, he should be on the left, cutting in. NC may believe he is best in the centre - but it could take some time for Yates to adapt, and for the other players to provide the right kind of service. I think he will get goals, in the right circumstances.
