Get Ballard

I get wages could be a stumbling block but use the compensation for Critchley to help fund him.

A record signing of £2m of a former fan favourite would certainly help season tickets sales.

I realise this is real life and not football manager but we’d easily treble his transfer value in 2 seasons. No brainer for me.

We should try to buy him.
Keogh's great, but hasn't long left. Need injury cover too.
We'd be very strong at the back esp from corners.
Couple of top midfield players needed urgently too, of course.

Former fan favourite that's pushing it,he was decent in a Lge 1 side that for the whole season we only saw him behind the screen.
I'd be more gutted if Marv left us.

Sorry but paying 15k+ a week for a CH is madness if you are to pay that kind of silly money find a playmaker or someone who puts the ball in the net.

Rumour has it he might have failed his medical at Burnley.

His stats on the medical table are quite worrying for someone so young he’s already had 2 lots of knee surgery missing 25 games over that period.

Still want to spend £2m on him?

I'd certainly be very happy if we did sign him and agree that he would likely become a very saleable asset but that's without any knowledge of personal terms and long term fitness concerns.

If you’re going to spend, always spend on the most important position - striker.
Getting a Gk for 1 mill then a forward for 250k is the wrong way round.
We need a player who has that je ne sais quoi , above everything else this season.
A cutting edge makes the difference.

Not if he has a medical issue. I do wonder if this is an issue with Josh due too the 'Bournemouth offer'?
That is something that has come up and why I think we will keep Josh here.

I also think Arsenal will let Ballard go for a lot less that the purported 1.7 million, he was outstanding for us and he was excellent at Millwall last season too and as Ather's says, he is only going to get better. We need to be strong in all areas and good centre halves are essential. He's a regular full International with Northern Ireland too.

I think it's going to be interesting who Appleton wants to release/sell to be honest. It's the first time in years we actually have a squad where we could start the season without bringing anyone in.

There's a lot of people expecting Casey to just slot in and be a good player with very little evidence that will happen. In fact, the only time I've seen him play in the first team was against Peterborough where we shipped five goals and he looked painfully slow. The result was by no means all down to him obviously.
There's plenty of time to develop of course and you can't judge on one game, but nor can it be assumed that he's going to be a star player either.

It’d take the Villa compo just to buy him. You’d need another £1M to pay him for the year. And that’d be a 3/4 year contract.

In an area where we’re fairly strong with young lads we need to start playing it’s a non starter.

The reason we’ve signed Tharme and Casey so they can be the next Ballard, at a fraction of the cost.

In addition Ts: If Pool pay Ballard what we all expect he'll be asking, other key players will want similar pay, and that may affect the current closeness of the squad.
We'll have a pay limit and the sensible thing is to stick within it - even a club as huge as Liverpool (e.g. Salah) do that.

Great player but 2 million is a big ask, that money is urgently required in other areas.

If we can afford to sign Ballard along with our other targets then go for it, if signing Ballard hinders our ability to strengthen key areas then we should avoid IMO

Doesn't Dan predominantly play right CB or right of a back three?
Seeing as MA likes a 4-3-3 if we got him who moves left him or Marv?

With that type of money he'd have to start.

Move on spend the money elsewhere as spending 2 mill on the potential prospect of making money down the line is nuts unless they where a forward.

Is there any mileage in the rumour that Critchbitch / Villa are interested in Big Marv, hence our rumoured interest in Ballard?
Keep in focus at all times Ben Mansfords prediction of false stories 🧡

Breaking the budget for an unremarkable player in an area that's not a priority doesn't seem like good business to me.
I think it is a bit of a priority tbh. Aside from Marv we don’t really have any true quality CBs and middle through with a few ‘7 out of 10 at best’ alternatives. Ballard is quality.

Understand your point but a commanding goalkeeper settles your defence and enables a team to get the best out of, even average, centre-backs. I watched the League One play-off final and the Sunderland keeper really impressed me.

£1M for Bowler (not worth selling at that,) and £2M for Ballard. I thought our problem last season was not scoring enough goals, so this is hardly going to help.

Don't forget that the more you pay for a player, the more wages he will demand.
SS will be very aware of that.

Yeah, but with £2m we arent likely to get someone that bags 15-20 a season or creates that many at this level. If the exit of Critch brings back the Yates of League One like it seems to have then spending money at the back to solidify isn't the worst idea, be that Ballard or elsewhere. If we can get 10-15 each from Yates and Lavery with Madine/Beesley getting a few and the odd few from midfield/defenders then not conceding (or conceding fewer) could be the difference in games.

To be fair it was BISONS who made up started the Bowler off for 1M rumour. Bear in mind LythamKev has a better hit ratio.
The club will do good business I am confident of that 👍
