I thought tonight was very disappointing, but I also thought we were alright apart from the attacking third.

With that being said, the board must make sure to back Appleton and get him players who can find the net and improve from what we’ve got.

Tonight was worrying, but I think Appleton needs more time, and a chance to end a transfer window before we all come crashing down on him.

He’s got to be given at least end of September/October, and more backing, to see if this will work.
 
It’s not really his fault, if you look at the players he’s wanted to bring in Brannigan, Simms, bishop all who have started the season well and banging goals in but we failed to get them the sign the contracts what more can he do.

Yep we dominated, but it all fell down with CJ taking heavy touches and kicking thin air.

CJ and Lavery leaving great chances to each other so none of them shot.

Lavery not able to get a foot on a cross which was an open net.

Many other completely wasteful passes, crosses etc from quite a few players.

Useless in the final 3rd.

Personally I wasn’t enamoured with Bishop, and it was gutting to lose out on Simms but I don’t think that’s an indictment of the board. Brannagan situation, and the Lyons one was a debacle though.

We’ve got to start securing deals. It sounds obvious but it’s the best path forwards.

He scored tonight in pompeys win over championship Cardiff so he’s scored more goals against championship opposition than all of our strikers put together and he doesn’t play in the same league.
 
Crying out for a cutting edge up front, having said that the service from wide was appalling tonight, even Jimmy Greaves would have struggled.

Double problem for me - no distribution and no goalscorer - said at the end of last season if we rely on Madine, Lavery and Yates we're in trouble.
