Ghosts

Our floorboards upstairs creak when you walk on them and at 3.30 this morning I heard them creak, the definite sound of footsteps. Got my trusty, homemade baseball bat from beside the bed and peaked out at the landing; nothing there. Checked the other rooms upstairs, before making my way downstairs to check everything down there. Nothing, doors locked, windows locked, nothing untoward.

The house is 115 years old, as was a house we lived in down south. Up until that point, I scoffed at suggestions of ghosts, but in that house, my daughter saw a ghost and I experienced strange things as well. We then discovered that the previous two owners had sold because they had seen ghosts.

So what about you guys, have you experienced anything, do you believe or not?

I've had a few experiences, but my last one was a cracker.

On holiday in Hawes, we had rented a flat near the centre. One morning we were deciding where to walk to and what to do that day, My wife and son were sitting on the sofa and I went across to a table to pick up a map. as I stood up to face them, I felt a push in my back, which made me take a step forward. There were just the three of us in the room. My son also saw a shadow in his bedroom.

There was nothing to worry about, as whatever it was, it seemed friendly.

When I was a kid there was a period when I sensed something from outside flying into the loft followed by heavy footsteps, scared the bejeezuse out of me. Another time about 10 years ago, I was cycling toward Pattingham during the early hours and coming to the end of a long-distance ride and stopped to have a bite to eat, I heard the galloping of hooves but couldn't see anything so I rode on a couple of miles before I stopped again for a bite to eat, guess what.................that galloping sound had followed me, I got on the bike and scarpered pretty sharpish until I reached civilisation.

I’m sure you all know my views on the subject. 3.30am is classic witching hour, when activity is highest.
I had an experience myself only last night. Was getting out of my car around midnight, car door open and heard my name being called. Nobody was around though. Said: “That’s nice” and calmly walked inside. 😬

I was in a pub in Ludlow in the summer when I asked whether they had a fancy dress party going on. They replied no and asked why I asked. I said I've just seen someone dressed in what looked like medieval battle dress just for a second and I looked again and they'd gone. They looked stunned and tried to push me for detail. i was vague.

Was I in the wrong not to tell them that I'd read it in a Ludlow guide book that the pub was haunted by a Cavalier 10 mins earlier?

I bought my apartment after the woman who lived there died in her 30's due to anorexia. After a couple og months there, I was watching a progam called "the power of the veins". In the advertising-pause, I was leaving the TV-room for the toilet, when the cabinet-door in the hallway came smashing down behind me. Never been som frightened ever in my life! Went straigth to bed, praying to God. Some years later, my house-phone called. Not scary in itself, but the fact that it was disconnected in the closet was quite an achievement.

My only one was, many years ago my female cousin (42 y.o.) who I got on with very well, was very ill.
We went to see her in Victoria Hospital one evening.
I was in bed a couple of mornings later and about 06.00 I had this blinding flash in my head. Later that day I was told she had died.
I asked when and was told 'About 06.00.

Wow

There’s creaking and there’s footsteps. Pretty clear distinction once you’ve experienced it.
I spent a week in a haunted caravan. Footsteps all week, especially around tea time. It was like the sound was on another frequency. Very odd.

I have had many experiences of spiritual activity. I think it depends on how open you are to the signs that are there. They may well be simply dismissed by some.

Mikey, by 'spiritual activity' were you drunk at the times it happened?😆

Yes, we had a contract working at the Crematorium replacing the old dilapidated ovens around 10 years ago, and we could only work at night when their was no services on in the day to keep disruption to a minimum . It was very earie place at night time as you could imagine, however late one night when i was working alone in lower area of the stair tower, i could hear the voice of small child playing above me, So obviously worried that there was a child on site in the Crem, i went up to go and investigate (H&S reasons). When i went up the stair tower i noticed wet footprints on the concrete stair treads (Child Size footprints & it wasn't raining that night) So expecting to see kids messing about when i got to the top, but there was nobody to be seen and the top door was locked, and only i had the key for gaining access. I slowly started to open the locked door, and the voices just stopped! I opened the door fully which led out onto a mezzanine area above the Ovens. I searched this area but saw or found nothing... The door behind me slammed shut and bizarrely locked itself!... Luckily I still had the key to re-open the door. I then went back down the stairs and the footprints had vanished or dried very quickly, and their were no signs of anyone around. I went back to work and put my ear defenders on, and hoped nothing else strange would happen that night.

However apparently this didn't just happen to me it happened to others working at the crem, saying the heard strange voices at night, and one person said they saw a girl around 10 years old skipping around the Crem late one night but just vanished into thin air!.

Make of that as you will... but it certainly gave me scare that night!

Bloody hell

I have a friend who lives in a house in that estate backing onto Carleton Crem. She used to have a smoke at the back of the house but had to move to the front as she was being ‘watched’ from over the fence. 😮👻

There were rumours flying about until recently that the stadium was haunted. Apparently people kept seeing a gaunt haggard man dressed in a hat like a highwayman wandering the corridors of the hotel late at night. Even weirder is that they used to find ectoplasm all over some of the rooms and suites. Scary stuff.

I bet it did glow after all those pills.

There were always stories of the Green Ghost at Carleton Crem bus stop and plenty of drivers of the 14 bus pulling up to let the lady, stood at the stop, to get on only to find that there was no one waiting there - in the old Driver and Conductor open deck 14’s

I lived on Moor Park Avenue years ago and used to walk through the graveyard quite regularly and would look to see if I could see “today’s date” on a headstone - loads of Jan-April dates matched, but I guess more to do with folks getting through another winter and seeing the summer.

I ran a bit at the time and recall a late night stroll back from the Castle Gardens home, normally not bothered but for some reason one night the hackles on my neck were up and I was jumpy as a shocked frog, think I put in my best quarter mile time that night running from the Crem Gates to Moor Park - not the Preston one where PNE fans regularly sprinted their best mile when Pool were in town.

I once went to a seance. The person who organised it kept laughing, so I punched him.

I always like to strike a happy medium🥴

Ghosts? What a load of old tut!😊

The human brian is too easily misled and there many things we don't understand about the subconscious that can play tricks to make these accounts reliable.

Theres still despite all the tech no real evidence of anything concrete, some weird things caught on film that could be anything, but so many fake things these days too.

If your working in a scary place, dark, even if your not scared there's no telling what your subconscious is doing, is it remembering that horror movie 20 years ago when a similar looking place was seen and put your senses on heightened alert so anything seems off.

Why would 3:30am mean anything if there was spirits, the passage of time is real but our labelling of 3:30 means nothing when it's midday somewhere else or all sorts of times around the world, why would being in the shade from a stars light make ghosts come out?

I think most is probably put down to the way our brains work and perceive things, fears etc.

Science doesn't take someone's experience that seriously without evidence.

Still I do find ghost views etc interesting to look into.

I dont want ot alarm you but I'm pretty certain there's a man creature living in your house walls and attic, not sure of you've seen the horror films.

They can access most rooms and travel in the crawl spaces, watch you when you sleep and can come out at any moment.

They stalk and terrify their victims, mess with them then kill them off one by one.

Good luck.

Well thanks, I’m sure I’ll sleep much better tonight. 👀

If she was anorexic, she wouldn’t have had the strength to move anything!😊

The brain can also be misled in the opposite way. I believe as adults the brain has learned to ‘filter out’ disturbing images, which would explain why children often see ghosts and adults cannot. Imaginary friends etc. Not fully developed that coping mechanism.

Re the evidence - they don’t appear to order. There’s millions of photos of ghosts. A decent percentage of those will be genuine. There’s also much better scientific technology coming out, beyond the regular EVP voice recordings. Voice boxes. Digital cameras. Figure mapping tech. Laser point maps. Infrared imaging. All producing a mass of evidence.

Yes, your imagination can get carried away in a dark, scary environment. But then so does your inbuilt survival mechanism - the 6th sense to warn of danger - fight or flight.

That’s a tricky one. Nobody knows for sure. It’s known to be a particularly active time, from accumulated experience alone.

I’ve a few theories, starting with least likely to most likely:

1) The number 3 mocks the Holy Trinity.
Not a fan of this one because ‘ghosts’ are not on the Demonic scale, so they aren’t ‘mocking’ anything. They are restless spirits though, because ultimately, for whatever various reasons, they haven’t ‘passed over’ into the Heavenly light.

2) Most people tend to be in deep sleep during this time period. Less chance of us disturbing the ghosts.

3) The veil between the human world and ghost realm is at its closest during this time. Makes it easier for ghosts to pass over into our time & space. Portals are often talked about, which is a means of coming & going and is different to residual hauntings that are tied to that location.

4) Charged up. Ghosts contain a spirit and an energy source. You can see this in orb photos. Humans eat food to gain energy. Ghosts still have to ‘top up’ energy somehow, to sustain. In some Asian countries they are referred to as ‘hungry ghosts’. They can draw on energy from us, or from say a room - hence why you will get cold spots and sudden changes of temperature. They are drawing energy and this is the equivalent of say, charging a mobile phone. By around 3.30am they are ‘fully charged’, so to speak, and have more energy to move around, manifest, move and affect things, etc. It takes a lot of energy to produce a full body apparition - hence why you might sometimes just see a floating head, a random limb, or half body.
This requirement for energy could be driven by the lunar cycle relative to location. There’s energy in moonlight. Too much energy can equally be harmful, which might explain why sunlight hours sees much less activity.

IMO ...

Once you are dead you are dead sadly, FACT.
Afterlife is a concept held on to those who can't handle this or religions.
Explanations for paranormal experiences:

1 - Hallucinatory sleep paralysis
2 - Pareidolia - finding meaning in meaningless things
3 - Electronic voice phenomenon (EVP) - adding meaning to random noise
4 - Humans can’t hear sound below 20 hertz, but some subconsciously respond to lower frequencies with feelings of fear or dread
5 - Electromagnetic field (EMF) - feeling of a presence
6 - Carbon Monoxide Poisoning - not always conscious of the presence of the gas but susceptible to its hallucinatory effects
7 - Power of Suggestion

I hope I am wrong but don't think so

Ita much more likely given kids imaginations that's why they see alloys and imagine stuff.

A child brain is primed for basic fears, the dar etc.

The dark is scary as you don't know what's there, with that age old basic fear the mind can insert anything.

It just makes no sense why there would be spirits as why would anyone have a spirit, we are biological beings no different from animals only that our brains are way more advanced, electrical signals.

The fact most happen at night when there's no reason that spirits would prefer night tells us its down to basic fears.

I'm more likely to belive in multiverse and aliens. Infact aliens is so highly probable that they exist somewhere. If they did make it here they would have to be so advanced to be able to get here alive.

Theres photos and videos of stuff, anomalies and some will be camera effects and issues you get. Other ones who knows what were looking at.

But concerted efforts of teams of scientists etc to capture meaningful data always seems to lead to nothing.

I would like to see more science used with lots of tech to see what is found if anything.

The problem with spirits and afterlife often means God and religion, which I dont believe in.

But despite not believing in things, put me alone in an abandoned mansion in pitch black and I'll be scared and imagining all sorts, all the 100's of horror films I've seen, basic fears, the fear of the unknown as no one knows anything for 100% certain. The Brian isn't sure theres no threats and a goes into a heightened state.

Despite my doubts I do still like looking into all these things.

As for those reasons, as a non believer, you might imagine am not particularly sold on any of them.

Despite having an open mind that can imagine lots if things I've never seen anything.

To be fair I don't do much research at 3:30am....

I'm not they type that if I saw something would shrug it off as a hallucination from fear or whatever, you tend to know if you're clear of mind. But never seen anything of note.

What it is people have seen i don't know, if its at that sort of late time its possible to be still part asleep despite being up.

Humans don't view the full range of light, sound etc so there could be some issues there.

Yes we all have spirits. So do animals for that matter. But the two aren’t interchangeable - you can’t come back as a dog, for example.
Animal spirits exist on another level.
When you die, all your lifetime of experiences and memories are ‘gathered up’ into your spirit energy which will leave your body within the first few days.

What danger? Harmless pranksters the lot of them apparently. Either death turns everyone into practical jokers or there's a selection process for returning as a ghost based on fondness for hand buzzers and whoopee cushions.

Pity, I was looking forward to being able to lick my arse.

I've never seen a ghost.

The closest I got was a dream shortly after my sister died. Her and my mum were both in my room, sat at the end of the bed and talking to me as though they were there; it was so real almost physically. The mattress depressed when they sat down, I held their hands, I could smell them and we had such a beautiful conversation about them both being better and together. I remember also becoming really upset as the conversation went on and saying to them, I know you can't be here and when I wake up you'll be gone - and of course they were.

Other than that, even though I've never experienced it, I never doubt those who say they have.

I just think it's presumptuous to say we know they don't exist when we've don't even know everything about the living world; not even close.
