Greenwashing by big companies

Had to laugh when driving down the M6 seeing an advert on the side of a McDonald's lorry boasting the company is recycling its cooking oil for the benefit of the planet.

Immediately my mind counteracted that boast by recalling all the litter and packaging you see at the sides of the roads and in hedgerows all across this country that are spewed out by that company.

Now UEFA are at it. Saying they are environmentally friendly but then introducing nearly 200 more European wide matches next year. See link -
UEFA and the planet

We are being taken for fools by those caught up in capitalism. They will never be able to give up their desire for profits over the greater good of the planet. They will just keep pretending they are doing something to fool the masses.

McDonald’s don’t drop the litter at the sides of the roads, hedgerows etc…..lazy members of the public who do that instead of accepting personal responsibility for their own waste and disposing of it responsibly.

True but if McDonalds really cared about the environment they could change their business model so you don't take away food and eat in their restaurants instead so they don't keep creating more and more packaging. Or they could have a system where the packaging has a code printed on it to identify the customer so they get fined if it is found littered. They won't because it would affect their profits.

Bloody annoying isn't it, but that's marketing for you.

Anyone remember "Guinness is Good for You", or "You're Never Alone With a Strand" (cigaretette)?

Obvious answer would be legislation to make fast food packaging biodegradable, but the usual suspects moaned enough about paper straws, it's not a vote winner.

They’re top blaggers.

I still hear people in response to people with low iron levels saying that you should drink Guinness. How on Earth did they get that out into the social psyche?
