Gretarsson injury

Please God we go up. He's a quality defender. If you watch premier league centre backs he doesn't do a lot different. Wins the ball, recycles/distributes the ball. The only difference is if they get touched in the prem it's a free kick/card. His positioning and tackling is top notch and he rarely commits a foul because he doesn't need to. He's an intelligent player who deserves better protection. (edit to add that I think the championship refs should afford him a bit more protection. Still nothing like the prem)

Not Hubby - little game time.If you had to, you'd go with Thorniley but then I've dislocated my shoulder and been right as rain a couple of days later. Not a major thing tbh.
I dislocated my shoulder and it was 8 weeks until the pain cleared. I didn't play for about 3 months.

If he has dislocated it he might not be back this season, 10 to 12 weeks at least for a rugby player maybe less for a footballer but if it hasn't gone back in it could be surgery depends what damage he's done to the muscle and tendons etc. Hopefully with the squad we have we will be OK.
If it’s popped out & either gone back in or been manipulated back (ouch) it was a months rest in a sling to allow the tissues that were torn to repair. Well that was the case in about 1980, but I wasn’t playing elite sports. We can only wait & see. Good thing is, whoever has played at CB, even the makeshift ones have all done a fantastic job.

Agree @Sooty59 - had mine done and bloody hurt .. was on ibuprofen and pain killers for a month!

The problem with a dislocation is how severe it is, if its came out badly he could of damaged the ligaments which requires surgery. Could end his season unfortunately.

Hopefully it was a minor dislocation which is just a pop back in sort of job. He's had some bloody luck Gretarsson hasn't he?

He's finding the physicality of EFL a little difficult to cope with. He is, however, a good player who will be able to strengthen and adapt his game. Definitely capable of being our left sided centre back at league1 and championship level.

Having a scan to check for tension or ligament damage, shoulder popped straight back in at the time but he's still in a lot of pain unfortunately.

"Hopefully Gary Madine might be able to get out on grass and start running too. Those three are the ones who have a chance of appearing before the end of the season." This is from NC think he will not wear the shirt again, we have no information at all as regards the injury, just that it is a groin.

Even though Thorniley always does a decent job, I just think Gretarrson and Ballard have the right understanding .. was maybe surprised not to see Ekpiteta!

Thorniley has been one of this season's unsung heroes for me but still wouldn't want to get to the Play Offs reliant on him which seems a bit daft to say!

I agree about being an unsung hero. He could have thrown his toys out of the pram, but no, he just got on with his job for the good of the team!
It may have led to a recent rethink of deploying him by Critch when there were other options available.

Guarantee he will be on many lists - is he a Cockney? Bet he'll be wanting to go back down South!

Lavelle could be a great long term replacement for Ballard. 4 seasons playing for Morecambe and captaining them from a young age will teach you the rough and tumble of defending at any level. Working with Critch and Calderwood to get the finer technical and tactical stuff nailed () would be beneficial too. At 24 he’s still young and has time to develop a lot.

It would be great seeing a Blackpool lad in the squad and potentially one day captaining the club (he is captain at the shrimps).

I can’t remember a Seasider captaining the squad in my lifetime ??
