Grimshaw - Blackpool's Number 1

The defence was rather good up to him being dropped and for some reason since then it's not been a good watch.

Grimshaw has proved he is a fantastic shot stopper, has wonderful reflexes and in my opinion is clearly growing into the position. His footwork with the ball, a ball playing keeper which everyone wants these days, is good but his distribution can on occasion be erratic. You can clearly see his upbringing at Citeh, and remember he was on the bench for the Champions League final sp he must be good for Pep to have that confidence in him. He is a young keeper who is very good now and will only get better.....who knows how good he will finallly be. For me he is genuine competition to Maxi and is a serious contender to be the genuine number one choice. Does Maxi some straight back into the team when fit this time.....for me no, he will need to warm the bench.....captain or not.

Can’t believe how quickly people have forgotten what Maxwell has done for us. Grimshaw is excellent, but Maxy is still number 1 for me. Needs a bit more respect imo

There's no disrespect to Maxwell, just an acknowledgement that, at Championship level in a Blackpool shirt, Grimshaw has looked more consistent and put in a better level of performance..

If Grimshaw's performances don't warrant keeping his position, it sends out a bad message about whether the squad is a meritocracy or not.

It's just as well he's playing so well because the rest of the defence seem to like to put him under pressure.

It has nothing to do with respect or lack of it. Football is a cut throat business and no one should be guaranteed a place in the side based purely on past performance, no matter how good they may have been. Grimshaw is a young, up and coming keeper proving himself at Championship level.....potentially he will be our keeper for years to come. Based on current form he deserves his place regardless if Maxi is fit or not. Like anyone else Grimshaw currently has the shirt and if his form continues when Maxi returns he should keep it . Maxi should have to bide his time to see if he can get his place back when fit.

But Maxwell has also been brilliant this season? It’s not as if he’s living off last season. He’s just been unfortunate with injuries

Yes and due to injury has lost his place to a player who has stepped up and grabbed his chance with both hands . If Critchley drops Grimshaw without a very good reason it would be a travesty. He used to be captain is not good reason !

You are only as good as your last game and he should never have dropped.
The defence deteriorated when Maxi came back and its not recovered yet.

It’s football . Maxwell has been unbelievable for this team - but injuries happen and places are competed for . Maxwell has had an amazing run with very little battling for his place - Grimshaw has seized his opportunity with both hands , and it would be soul destroying for him to
Now be dropped

He was ropey in the two games back but this is my point....up to injury Maxwell was playing well no question. Yes, he has been unfortunate with injury but that's football. Grimshaw has grasped his chance and now deservedly, in my view, can be considered as number 1. Maxwell I feel should not come straight back into the team this time but must wait his chance. Any other position and no-one comes straight back into the team.

Agreed, Grimmy has been fantastic but give Maxi some respect. Our keeper dept is in fantastic health (once Maxi is fit of course)

I thought he could have been better positioned for the two Borough goals, but have to say that his 'instinctive' reaction saves are up there with the best - and I don't mean just our league.

He needs to be more commanding under pressure and improve his distribution, but I can see if he remains injury free, being one of the best keepers we've had and also one of the best in the Championship.

Happy days.

Grimshaw needs to bulk up a little and command his box a little more.

But today he was awesome; three outstanding saves, two late on which secured three vital points for us.

A MotM performance for me, necessary due to ridiculous substitutions by the manager at the end.

I was all for bringing Maxwell straight back in, but Grimshaw has stepped up to the plate. You wouldn't drop of goal scorer banging them in, so why drop a keeper in top form.
Maxwell will have to sit tight and wait for a dip in Grimshaw's form this time I think.

I'm just chuffed we have 2 top quality keepers, Grimshaw could be a future England keeper. Not forgetting Moore is bloody good too, too good to be a number 3, he needs to go out on loan once Maxi is back.

He can improve so easily with a bit of effort- just the kicking, the choices of staying or coming maybe the defensive communication. When he gets those, all of which are easily teachable, unlike his saves, he'll be a very good keeper.

Get him playing through to the end of the season and then pre season should be the time to sort his shortcomings.

I'd like him to be coached more in terms of dominating his area. It is difficult at this level because there are some huge players.

give up being a dick eh! You show me a post of mine where i said he must play because he's captain?
If you weren't so obsessed with Maxwell then it would have been a lot easier to find the post. I searched Maxwell as the keyword and I'm not lying when I say 50% of the posts containing the word Maxwell have been made by you. Also if you'd have replied 3 months ago when I posted this, it would have saved me having to search through the hundreds of posts you have made since containing the word Maxwell. I give up, I can't be arsed.

To be fair to 20’s he did say he should play because he’s our No1 I don’t recall him saying it was because he was our captain.
I along with others disputed it at the time saying Grimshaw was our best keeper.
I can’t see Critchley dropping Grimshaw as easy next time around when Maxwell is fit but then again…………….

He is a very calm young man , shot stopping is brilliant, think we have a good un here🍊
He's definitely earned that shirt, some brilliant performances this season, concentrating like a true pro and making great saves at vital moments. However if he got injured I'd have no hesitation about Maxie also stepping in and doing a great job. We are lucky indeed 👍

Two more incredible saves today - I'd be really disappointed in Critch if he brings Maxwell back in.

Grinmi is a confident, quality young keeper. Played something like a dozen (possibly slightly more) games now and you can see that in him. The team have confidence in him and it’s clear he feels he is good (more than) enough for this level. I’m not convinced we will see Maxi for a good while yet so when he does return Grimmi will have firmly established himself (has already in my eyes) as no1. Maxi may have to wait for the start of next season to really challenge Grimmi for the shirt. Either way we have two top quality keepers which is a fantastic for us and I’m sure envious for other clubs.

Np wonder you can't be arsed, it's because your post was bull shit. As Jaffa says my whole point around Maxwell coming back into the team was because he was our no 1 keeper, not because he was captain. And guess what that's what Critchley thought too.

You also have to look at Maxwells fitness. He had this quad issue as far back as Hull away. He came off injured a few games later, was out for weeks and when he returned it went again. God knows how long he will be out for so for me it raises serious questions on how reliable his fitness is. Maxwell was quite rightly our no 1 but I don’t think he is now….Grimshaw is now the clear no1 for me based purely on current form. Also he is only 22 or something like that so will clearly get better and his best years are yet to come…hopefully with us.

Just a correction.
He wasn't on the bench for the Champions League final.

no problems with that. What I don't like is some-one saying that I said Maxwell should come back into the team because he was captain. As far as Grimshaw is concerned, he's doing really well. Pretty quiet game for him yesterday but made a great save at the end which ensured the three points. The longer Maxwell is out only enhances Grimshaws reputation and will present a dilemma for Critch. So yep, it's got to the point where Grimshaw would be unfortunate to lose his place.

Sign of a top quality keeper, quiet game with not a lot to do but makes the vital save when called upon. Agreed though. Big dilemma for Critch when Maxi does eventually return.

I don’t think it’s a headache now, maybe it was last time and I thought Critch made the wrong call at the time but I can see why he made it.

Maxwell then had a poor couple of games and got injured again. Since then Grimmy has come back in and picked up where he left off showing fantastic character.

They’re both good keepers and I wouldn’t be upset with either of them starting but Grimmy is first choice now IMO.
