Grimshaw vs Maxwell

Not sure this topic has been debated yet, but if/when Maxwell is fully fit: Is it a no-brainer to bring him straigth back in?
Yes, he played great before getting injured, and yes he is our captain...but Grimshaw has really done as well as we could have asked for.
I suppose they both deserved to play, but it will be harsh on Grimmy to be left out now..

It will be a tough decision for the manager. After a nervous start at Forest, understandable as debut, Grimshaw has been very impressive. Good handling, confident on crosses and with the ball at his feet.

And to be fair Stuart Moore looked more than adequate in the half hour cameo he had against Rovers. Great depth in the goalkeeping department.
Have we ever had a better GK-team? And as Chunkylad wrote, it's great NOT to be worried if Maxi gets injured again, or if he needs a breather.

Absolutely. No more going out begging for a loanee, or worse Richard Kingson, whenever the first choice keeper is injured or suspended.

I would keep playing Grimshaw until he deserves to be replaced.
His distribution is better than Maxwell's and he is a proper sweeper keeper also he is still young enough to improve a lot.
Works 2 ways that. Grim has a howler and gets dropped and that's his confidence hit. Put Max straight back in and it's - you've been brilliant Grim but Max is No 1 this season and our on field captain, so he's always going to play, unless he has a run of howlers. Keep going and it's up for grabs pre-season.

A decision for Banks, Critch and the defenders too.

I totally agree with you on this matter, Grimshaw has certainly earned a decent spell between the sticks, and if he retains the position even with a fit Maxi, it can only benefit both players,

Maxwell is our no 1 and should be straight back in. Last night only re-enforced my view even though it wasn't in doubt anyway.

I like Grimshaw think he’s done a tremendous job, really felt we would suffer without Maxwell.
I disagree with others though I don’t think Grimshaw should be just dropped because Maxwell is fit again.
Grimshaw’s confidence is sky high right now and will be wrong to just kick him in the teeth.
Big Marv is doing a great job as Captain so let’s not jump too quickly.

He's been beaten by two great strikers against Swansea and QPR, also beaten by an offside handball against stoke.
But he's had 3 clean sheets in his 8 matches only losing two. His save in the 2nd half at Reading was the catalyst for the comeback and his great ball to Keshi meant we gained 3 points at Sheffield United.
He is young and only going to get better, I said to my lads after last nights match that we're not missing Maxwell as much as I thought we would.
Ultimately its Critch's decision when Chris is fully fit but Grimmy has done himself no harm whatsoever . Nice problem to have👍🏻

For me it's still Maxwell.
The biggest criticism of Grimshaw is his short distribution in front of goal.
Played really well though, an excellent No.2.
And 2 decent keepers coming through the Academy ranks in Charlie Monks (1st year pro) and Alex Mclachlan.
Grimmy has a very good habit of pulling off a couple of really good match winning saves and despite some dodgy distribution recently I don't recall any serious misdemeanours in that respect today.
On the other side of the coin Maxi got a really good mention today for his efforts off the pitch coaching the u/16s so it's good to see his recovery time is being put to good use.
As for who's first choice I've always been a believer of the principle of "keep the shirt" until you don't deserve it.

Notice the o/p's post was was made in November when I would have agreed with that but I can't see how you could drop Grimmers at the moment especially when you think how bad Maxwell was when he came back in.

Agree Grimshaws confidence is growing each game, some top top saves from him. He seems to be able to parr his saves away from danger, Maxwell is a great keeper however at times he goes for the Hollywood save and just punches it out to the on coming striker and his reaction speed isn't as good as Grimshaws.. think grimshaw should be No1 until there is a drop in his form, if Maxwell comes straight in again, I can see Grimshaw being snapped up by another club as a No1

The injury to Maxie is worrying. Will he recover from it as it seems to repeat when he starts training?
Quite happy Grimshaw is there, a very capable understudy, who will take over one day.
