Hardie

Thought the same - think he probably added 100% to his game for that opening half.

Bearing in mind how light we have been up front all season I would have liked to have seen him on our bench. He could have been used to give Jerry a rest.

He’s a weaker, lazier, less intelligent version of Yates. Happy for him in a way as I don’t think he was treated very well here but I really don’t think he’s a very good goal scorer at this level.

He has been on the bench for them a lot this season, the manager clearly utilised him knowing a player against his old club that didn't rate him will up his game to prove 'em wrong.

In the long run we've got a miles better striker in Yates.

Thd first half today showed that his natural position is as a central in the box striker. I don't think we ever played him there

He played there against Donny and missed an absolute sitter. That summed him up for us.

I know he didn't get much game time here but what I saw of him I wasn't disappointed he left. He hasn't been a regular really for Plymouth either. No where near Yates or Madine for me.

Hardie is no great loss, yes he has a bit of pace and some talent but the fact he's been on their bench says quite a lot to me. He's lightweight and extremely inconsistent.

He had a very goog chance to make it 2-0, but chose his right foot instead of his left and did'nt get the power needed
to finish. I think he will be ok in the lower divisions, but Critchley etc made the right decision to let him go to Plymouth.
I also dont think he has the hunger Yates has.

What an awful thread

People jumping on to have a pop at him

The facts are he never got a proper chance for us or a run of games and was shipped out without Critchley even having a look at him

He showed yesterday what he can do

We could certainly do with now as he's a far better option than Ellis Simms
Yates was a big upgrade on Hardie so there's nothing to see here...for me thats what it is all about...upgrading what we have to bring quality into the side. Player for player we are much stronger than we were under Grayson and that is thanks to the backing of the owner. With all due respect to Phil by his own admission he would still have Delfouneso, Spearing, Feeney, Macdonald and Hardie so there would have been no room for 5 of the new signings.

In my opinion we have upgraded in virtually every position and I hope we continue to do so and dare to dream of progression back to the top end of the Championship. Stewart and Dougall are both better than Spearing, CJ is a massive upgrade on Feeney, Garbutt is much better than Macdonald, Keshi will be better than Fonz and Yates is different gravy to Hardie.

We need to have some belief in what we have (when they are not all injured) and hopefully get over the line this season. If we just miss out then we can be challenging for the title next season.

The manager has undoubtedly made mistakes and I would say has cost us a number of points this season (usually because of his tinkering) ...however things are improving and there are lots of reason to look forward to a tangerine future.

He may have been ok from the bench but who can know...the manager didnt fancy him and we got rid...lets be honest as fans we didnt see enough of him to accurately assess him and the gaffer would have seen a lot of him in training...

I did see a bit of him playing for the Ressies. I remember him scoring a hat trick but probably didn't have much more than 3 touches. As you say probably a type of player that doesn't suit Critch.

Two more goals for Hardie tonight at Portsmouth, takes him to 6 league goals I think, joint top scorer in the division with Stockton. Finding his feet? Scored with both feet tonight apparently.

Lge 1 player nothing more he was garbage last season and got dropped.

Was he really a better option than Ellis Simms?

Not every player works out. Doesn't mean they're no good, just means they didn't work out. I thought Hardie looked decent in the limited football he played for us, not great but decent, but we really didn't play to his strengths. He found his club with Plymouth and good luck to him. I'm more than happy with our replacements though.

I'm glad it's working out for him. Was treated shoddily here really and if he goes on to bigger n better things then good for him. He's certainly hit the ground running this season

I watched the full 90 minutes (missus supports Argyle) and he was awesome. Cool head with his goals, lightning quick and could have scored two more, creating chances for himself out of nothing.

I agree with all of that except the comment about Simms.

But we wasted Hardie, there are no two ways about it.

It works out for players at some clubs, and it doesn’t at others. There’s so many factors that contribute to a players success beyond simply ability.

Glad for Hardie, but we gain absolutely nothing by talking about him now

When he was struggling to make a mark with us, I viewed his goals highlights video up in Scotland and noticed that they all stemmed from very poor defending. He had a bit of pace and some good finishing skills to take advantage of defensive mistakes. I think it has taken him a while to get used to better defenders.

Looking at the goals last night, Portsmouth's high defensive line and defenders without enough pace to get back in position played right into his hands. His skillful finishing then took full advantage of that.

He would probably hit similar issues at Championship level as he wouldn't come up against such poor defending or be able to outpace the quicker defenders at that level. Looks handy to have right now at League One level though... he developed a year too late for us.

He barely got a chance.
yep agree, never got a chance to prove himself with us. Whether he's good enough for the Championship, I don't know but he seems to be a natural goalscorer. Perhaps it's a case of that if he doesn't score in a game he pretty much offers nothing else and could be seen as a passenger..

The one thing about being good enough is that how do you know without getting there right? He's a big lad and young. Seems coachable. But you never know what happens behind closed doors.

he might be reasonably tall, but there's no strength in him. He's far from a physical player. But we agree that for some reason, he never got a chance here. Grayson clearly didn't fancy him and Critchley really seems to want just his own players. Only Maxwell started last saturday from the previous managers players.

A fair assessment that BHOK.

Why can't we just move on now. Clearly he would not be able to cut it at Championship level.
