It is with great sadness I have just learnt that Nerses ( I think that’s how it’s spelt), the founder of the Harrowside Armenian, passed away last night….RIP great man and sincere condolences to Avril and all the family.
He has been serving the community ever since 1978 when they opened the shop. An absolute gent who will be greatly missed.

Only the other day read a journalists report on their food.

A glowing review.

Very sad news. His whole family will be proud of his achievements, and the joy he brought to so many food connoiseurs.

I used to live nearby for a number of years this is very sad news, all the best to the lovely Avril and her family.

A sad day if it's true 😔 my uncle started taking me in for a kebab when I was a kid so I've know the family for probably 30 years. I'd seen they were closed tonight due to 'unforseen circumstances' which isn't out of the ordinary, they close from time to time for various reasons.

Is it the same owner as the Armenian Kebab House that used to be in Lytham? Always enjoyed a Kebab from there when I worked in Lytham (1984-94)

My Condolences to his family

When the one in Lytham first opened yes he put a member of his extended family in there to run it. Then I think it changed hands and subsequently closed a number of years ago.

Never had a kebab, I’ve only seen disgusting lumps of some kind of meat, supposedly, hanging with flies welcomed.

You are probably a good judge Mates but they can be bloody tasty.

I've never been in the Armenian but it has served the community well over a long period not that you were suggesting otherwise.

God Bless

RIP

That was Danny, possibly Danni. Nice bloke, great with our kids and he used to give them a sort of treat.

How can you call something disgusting that you've never had?

Done properly they are absolutely delicious and can be made with any number of meats, salads and vegetables. The fact the kebab can be traced back to the 10th century in Asia and Persia suggests you might be on your own.

Anyway RIP to the founder of the Armenian. A Blackpool institution for 40 plus years.

45 years now.

It is with great sadness we share the passing of Nerses Kishmishian 9/2/1946 - 17/10/2023

After a short illness, Nerses passed away peacefully. The family are coming to terms with a great loss and ask for consideration at this time.

The family would like to thank the NHS for the care and attention given to Nerses, especially Doctors, Nurses and Staff on AED, Ward 18 and Ward 15b.

Nerses’s final wishes were that his son Berj Kishmishian would carry on his legacy through the operation of The Armenian Kebab House, 29 Harrowside, Blackpool.

The shop will re-open on Friday 20th October 2023. As a sign of respect the shop will remain closed on Tuesdays indefinately.

Nerses valued all his customers and consider many as close friends. We hope you will continue to enjoy his legacy. It will be our pleasure to serve you, it may be your delight to return.

RIP. I worked at British Island Airways mid seventies. I am pretty sure he was there. Lovely man.

Was this Armenian chap called Danny fond of a bet ?

It's just there used to be an Armenian chap called Danny who used to punt in all the bookies around the town.

Whenever he backed a winner he explained to everybody after the race why it was a certainty, whenever he backed a loser he used to shout, "Eet woz bent".

Just wondering if it was the same guy, there can't be too many Armenian Danny's on the Fylde coast.

What did he look like?

Small chap, white hair, always had a goatee before they were a thing.

Apologies for the accent but another of his quips would be, "In thees country even the police force is crooked".
Sounds like him from a looks perspective.. he had a fairly prominent mole on his face if I remember rightly too.
