Hi there,
I was fortunate to play at Bloomfield road twice in the afore mentioned cup final for Warbreck Hill school, as it was then. It was 1974/75 75/76 I was wondering is there anyone on the forum who played in these finals that might have any photos of the game or teams that played.
Many thanks.

I played in 1978 or 1979 for Palatine. Lost 1-0 to Carr Hill of all schools. Gutted at the time.

1989 winners with LSA High School.
Meal afterwards for presentation at Sheraton Hotel.
Sir Tom Finney presented trophies.

Thanks everyone for your input, just remember it being a fantastic time playing on that huge pitch, I felt like Mickey Walsh, look more like Bradley Walsh now lol.

Did you play with Daz Hall (RIP) at Warbreck?

1984 Winners, for St Georges, 2-0 against Warbreck
The pitch was brilliant, and still remember going up to get medals and trophy from the West Stand.
Great memories

1993 for Lytham High School. Can’t remember who we played but we won 4-1.

Also played there in the Lancashire cup final the year before against a school from Burnley which we lost in extra time. I scored that night tho!!

I played the final , think 1968, played for Palatine but got beat by Baines , 5-1 , I also gave away a penalty , not the best of memories!

Perhaps not but, it was a thrill to use the Seasiders dressing room and play on that turf, I played in 2 finals, won one lost one, to Palatine actually lol, I too was gutted, but the presentation and meal after made up for it.

I remember in the mid 1970s, the strictly rugby only school, (St. Josephs College), finally allowed their pupils to play football in the Harry Johnston trophy, for 2 years consecutively.

They hadn't played football against any schools before, so they entered the competition as underdogs, yet they won the trophy for those 2 years running. (1974 & 1975).

They didn't play again the following year, because of crowd trouble in the final, which made the front page headline of The Gazette.
This gave the anti-football, rugby loving, teachers/brothers the perfect excuse they wanted, not to enter the competition again, the following year.

I'm not sure if they appeared in the competition again.

I played in the 1980 one , St George's v Larkholme. Thrilled to be playing at Bloomfield and the meal and presentation a few weeks later was special as Morty gave out the medals.

Played in 81 final for Palatine, got beat 1-0 against Warbreck. I gave Steve Thompson a yard, and he turned me and scored. Glad to play at BR and use the big bath .

This thread brought back a few distant memories.

I played in the Baines team that won the cup in successive years in the early seventies, beating Warbreck 3-0 (at Fleetwood) and Bailey at Bloomfield the following year.

We played all over Lancashire in those days and lost only once in over two years and some 40 odd games.

In following year, in the first round of the Lancashire Cup (as U14`s and strong favourites) we played Warbreck and surprisingly lost 3-2. That would have been 1974/75 I think.

Anyway, here`s a l little bit about the St Joes team that won the Harry Johnstone trophy. One or two decent players I recognise...

1989 Hodgson beat Lytham 3-0. Cocker, Whitehead and Grant Leitch who went on to play for Blackpool the scorers.

Played in 1978 for Montgomery v Baines.Drew 1-1 so shared it.Great playing on the hallowed turf.Had meal at The Sheraton.Just looking at programme with menu.Got Stan Mortensen,Bill Perry Jock Dodds,Eddie Shimwell & Tom Finney’s autograph on it.Bitter sweet night.9th May -Orient won so sent us down.

Forgot about the meal at the Sheraton until this thread. Ours was a couple of weeks after because the game was played right in the middle of our GCSE exams. We all thought we were great because not only had we won but our teacher Mr Mudie (great teacher, son of the FA Cup winner Jackie) let us all have half a lager with our meal!!

Played in 1977 for Baines v Collegiate and lost 2 1 after extra time. My mistake let John Webster get the winner, although it was my dive that allowed Hodge to equalise from the free kick. At the meal I was sat opposite Ray Charney, George Mee and Alan Ainscow, who liked the odd swear word. Still talk about it when I see Dosser Dawson in PLF. Being a rugby school they were much fitter than us.

Have enjoyed reading this thread, lots of names I recognise and have played with but have half-forgotten - like Tony Mudie.

Played football with John Webster and Paul Dawson, who were both very good footballers. Always say hello to Paul if I see him in the Thatched.

Strangely I have no recollection of the meal before the final!
