A few years ago I had problems with the Greek police whilst on holiday there. I was in dispute with a local company who hired out bikes. They were just crooks really conning hoiliday makers. They conned me, and I went to see them (the hire company) to dicuss it. I got threatened and it got pretty violent. The police only got involved when I put up a sign on our hotel notice board warning people. The hotel management did not like this and told the hire guys. They came to see me and were threatening and so I shoved one back as he came up to my face looking like he was going to head butt me. To cut a long story short the police were worse than the hire guys and I was lucky to spend only a short time with them. The rest of the holiday was "interesting" as well and I was pretty relieved to get back on the plane. Truth and honesty were not high on any of the Greeks involved that I met that week. To be fair the Greeks not directly involved and who witnessed it were great and indeed the bar next door to the hire place gave me plenty of free ouzo and lemonades the next few days, but my own experience would say don't trust the police there. When I reported it to the holiday rep her comment was that the police there are badly paid and in general poorly educated and it is best not to involve them if possible.
