Michael Appleton confirmed both centre back Adam Jackson and midfielder James Jones will miss out on Sunday’s final due to injuries.

The Lincoln City boss also said his three remaining centre-backs, Joe Walsh, TJ Eyoma and Lewis Montsma, are all “50/50” at this moment, however they will go through fitness tests and clearance on Saturday.

Despite the doubts, Appleton confirmed he is confident they will all be involved.

“It’s not ideal with our three centre halves, but having said that we do hope and expect them to be available, they’ve just been struggling a little since Saturday,” he said.

On Joe Walsh specifically, he added: “We need to see what he’s like tomorrow [Saturday] but if we feel like he’s okay to start the game then certainly that will be the case.

“That would have happened on Saturday [against Sunderland] but we felt it was too much of a risk and the fact he’s not trained much this week suggests we made the right decision in the end.”

Besides the defensive troubles and the absence of James Jones, Appleton has the freedom of his entire squad to choose from, and he says the team will likely be announced to the players on Saturday evening.

He said: “I’m going to sleep on it tonight, but they normally know the day before. So whether that is tomorrow evening but I don’t want to put too much fear into the players yet.

“I’ll speak to my staff some more and then I will make that call at some point tomorrow.”
