HECKINGBOTTOM

Anyone else totally underwhelmed by the prospect of Paul Heckingbottom? To me, however well he interviews for the job, it would be a poor choice and would not bring the feel good factor back to the fan base. To be honest he would be the kind of appointment I would expect under the egregious Oyston regime. I would give him a chance and get fully behind him if he is appointed but personally I would hope we can show a lot more ambition.

I'd rather have hung on with Grayson, at least that way we'd only have to sit it out for a few months longer...I can't even understand why he would be on the shortlist TBH.

I am sure Simon Sadler and his team read this board and hopefully will realise just how unpopular and underwhelming this appointment would be. They need to get the right man and the feel good factor back. I think SS has played a blinder so far and will get this right and if he does it will unite the fan base behind the owner, manager and the club.

Can it be anything except his mate holds a position on the board?

I'm at a loss to think of any other reason.

If he gets the job I will have serious, serious concerns about the club, the board and the direction it is headed.

There are plenty of fans with financial clout who own football clubs who don't have a clue what they're doing.

Not bothered either way if it was him at the end of the day it's a results business and whoever took over doesn't start winning games they will be toast anyway at the end of season.

Whoever takes over will not be gone at the end of the season, regardless of results. Unless they are taken on a short term contract which I very much doubt. Sadler is rich yes, but he is not rich enough, or foolish enough, to keep paying managers off. This is the main reason which I think, and hope, that he will not rush into a panic appointment. We are not going up this season, chances are we won’t go down, therefore speed should not be the overriding factor but good sound judgement should. In SS we trust. Having said that I am still bitterly disappointed that Evo is not being at least a chance to state his case.

At least someone like Evo is going to start with the fans up for it and excited... With PH, everything, even down to his name, is just dull....

"Hi I'm Paul Heckingbottom"...

That is enough to put you off!!

I'm assuming he comes equipped with a Flat Cap & Ferrets

Wouldn’t be my choice by a long shot. If it doesn’t work out it taints Mansford as well, which isn’t good for stability. Shouldn’t disregard the fact he took Barnsley from the bottom half of League One to the top half of the Championship. He’s not the only one to find Leeds too much, but his record at Hibs is alarming. Big no from me

Hibs are back on track since he left. Jack Ross is taking them back up the league - despite being a Sunderland failure.

This feels more like the excpetion that breaks the rule on a fairly pitiful managerial career so far.... He won't be the first person to have had a decent run as a Caretaker before flopping.... For me, he represents a far bigger risk than Evo.....

Feels like a mate giving him the opportunity to come and resurect his failing non-career....

I really hope it's not Heckinarse...I'd support him, but would rather have Nathan Jones,as he has a more attacking outlook and being young will have some bright new ideas and energy.

He's ok and just needs the right club.
A bad move going to Hibs as that was only going to end one way but he's a '46 gamer' and understands the EFL well.

Jones would have been my choice out of those generally touted for the job but the longer he dithers the more inclined I would be to look elsewhere...Evatt or Lobero could be the answer

Cant see it being Heckingbottom. Too similar to Larry and does not tick the entertain the fans box which is one of Sadlers key criteria. I think it will be someone completely unexpected. Exciting times.

Just stick with Dunn until the end of the season and wait for the usual impetuous chairman to start pulling the trigger.

Had never heard of him before that thread the other day about him being odds on, I first thought the o/p musta meant Higgingbottom and had suffered spell check or something, not often you hear a Surname from these Isles that youve never heard before, especially One that puts a smile on your face when you read it.

Has anybody here ever known another Heckingbottom ?

The thought of him doesn't fill me with enthusiasm. The best I'll be able to achieve is neutrality, and I'll let his attitude and results take it up or down from there.

Well, to be fair to Grayson, only reasonable that whoever gets the job is booted out if mid table after 30 games in charge.
That'll be end October-ish, so maybe not a bad idea if we get someone that we don’t really like in the first place.
If he does better than that, we can grudgingly 'give him his due' without really warming to him, 'results business' etc etc

Heckinbottom will do nothing to lift the crowd. As a group of fans we are punch drunk like non other. We need inspiring, entertaining and on the edge of our seats. We are going to be non of those with such news so it’s much better to look a little laterally here.

Evatt would definitely give us the lift, that spring in our step...

How could you never have heard of him??

Doesnt look like he played for the Pool on wiki and the clubs he played for are not particularly mainstream media, but he is of the age/era that I know best, so im missing something if most on here know of him, what did he do ?

I hope to God any appointee is here until the end of the season, its only 3 months away FFS!
We have give any new manager time, no knee jerk reactions!

He worked with Ben Mansford (our CEO)at Barnsley Morti so there is a link...it would imo be a jobs for the boys scenario
Yeah, read about them working together, had never heard of Mansford either before he was linked with Blackpool, somebody on here posted video of his farewell from his last gig, came accross being extremely held in high regard there, musta done a very good job, so clearly knows his eggs, if Heckingbottom.got the job because of Mansfords intimate knowledge & judgement on him, then for me, Id go with it. Gonna click soon for Blackpool, has the right vibe now.

Just because 'X' knows 'Y' doesn't automatically make 'Y' a bad candidate, nor does it invalidate 'X's views / opinions of 'Y'.

I think I got that how I meant it.....

Agree with that KKS but if the Oystons had unveiled Heckingbottom as the new manager they would have been lambasted to the hilt as he does not bring a wow factor to the table.

Would definitely prefer he isn’t given the job, but he could well do a good job for us.
Clearly a league 1 manager, as his success at Barnsley would appear to suggest

I think alot of people have turned against him because he's not an attractive name. None of us mentioned him as a likely candidate (bar Mystic Mosser!) and he just feels a bit 'safe'. However, there is no doubt he did the business at Barnsley and I hope if he is the choice we can put aside the whole 'jobs for the boys' scenario - give the bloke a chance and not make snap judgements on him. To be honest, at the moment, if we're ruling out Jones and Evatt, it does feel a bit like Hobson's choice.
