Went last year and loved the place. Going again next week with Mrs Shanks but wanted to know if you can suggest any hidden bars or eating places that tickle your fancy? Many thanks in advance

A lot of people miss out the Jewish Quarter(Kazimierz)....it`s a good half hours walk from central square but cheap as chips in a sherbert....full of iconic bars and restaurants.
Do try Propaganda!Link says plenty!

Yes go to Kazimierz, great place. Good bars round there are Alchemia, Mleczarnia (tiny but loads of old pictures of people on the wall), and Kolanko. There are actually loads of places to drink and eat round there. Very very busy at weekends tho so will need to book a table to eat.

Do the museum at the old Oscar Schindler factory about Krakow between 1939 and 1945. Best museum I’ve ever been to.

To be fair the whole city is brilliant.

This is great thank you - we spent a good deal of time last time in the Jewish part around kaimierz and went to Alchemia. We will be going back and will search out propaganda bar as well - any other hidden bars like this would be great to visit. Many thanks

We are at Hamsa in the Jewish Quarter. Don't be put off by it saying it's serves Humous. I'm not a fan of the stuff but it tasted amazing and the kebabs (on skewers) were spot on too

We also ate at Trattoria la Campana. Michelin Starred restaurant, very reasonable too (around £70) for the two of us.

Of you've not done Auschwitz then make sure you do. Mad crazy place that will blow your mind

Hamza is a cracking restaurant

We ate a few times in Marmolada on ul. Grodzka 5, on the opposite side of the road away from the main square is a bar that makes its own Cherry Vodka, very small but worth a visit, sorry I can't remember the name. We found quite a few interesting bars in the area behind the Basilica including the House of Beer on ul. Sw. Tomasza 35. The pink elephants on my avatar are from the ceiling of a Belgian themed pub opposite. Far too many places to recommend we never found a bad one.

Had a gorgeous steak at The House of Beef last night, just off the main square.
We're staying between the square and the castle, right on the far side from us is CK Brewor, they have their own brewery and the food is cheap.
House of Beer is a good shout and Wodka Bar, but it's tiny.

Confirm re House of Beer and Vodka bar, plus if you want a great breakfast or lunch, then go to the Milk bar on the same street as house if beer but on opposite side of road. Excellent full English/Irish for about £5 with coffee. Always busy but worth waiting for a table if you have to.

Under the Angels is a very nice restaurant around the mid-price range which still means cheap for the UK, Cyrano de Bergerac is a little more expensive but you may taste flavours unlike anything you have experienced before. Take a taxi - it won't cost that much.

Is it worth prebooking transfer from airport, or better to just jump in a taxi?
We planned to get the train last year but it was out of service so opted for the bus - cost £1.50 and dropped us off near enough to our hotel. This time we'll try the train again as it's right alongside the airport and takes you into the city centre.... I'll splash the cash as I think its £1.90 for a ticket 😉

I went to Cyrano de Bergerac one of the best restaurants I've ever eaten in. Service top notch as soon as your wine glass nears the bottom they quickly fill up. Thought prices were reasonable. Highly recommended.

Restaurant called Morskie Oko, just off the main square. One of the best meals Iv had on my travels.

highly recommend

They have airport taxis that you can jump into but they are convenient but quite expensive in comparison to other other options. They are 89 zloty into the city centre which is about £18.

If you pre-book with Hoppa (or similar) it works out less than that for a return.

Or the train or bus are very cheap as mentioned above. Depends what time you arrive and how thirsty you are I guess!!

If you are going with your Mrs and want to score some easy points there is a place called Scandale Royale which is a street or 2 off the top left of the main square. Does cocktails and decent food all fairly cheap. My wife loves it in there.

I live over in Poland now, I will let you know later some of the highlights for locals and hidden places!! Its a great place and if you need any tips more than happy to help out fellow pool fans over there!!

Plenty of shooting ranges there too. Book a trip and get picked up and taken to range and back. Pick your package and weapons. Uzi was my fav.

Here right now and it's beautiful.... maybe the local lager is helping but what a place. £4.60 a pint the night I've flown in liverpool... currently paying less than 10zl which is less than £2 and just about to go to a polish bar that's 5zlts a pint

For something different try a visit to the Pinball Museum. Free pinball, video game classics and reasonable price for beer to drink as you play them

10zloty a pint, you must be going somewhere posh!!

I’m there again in 4 weeks. Are there any issues with the old Coronavirus over there?

Ah memories. Flew back into Liverpool just pre lockdown - all of Europe was being shut down and all John Lennon airport had was a laminated A4 sheet of paper that said wash your hands.
