It was a very disappointing night, but not a surprising outcome, we’d have like to see a good cup run to get a few quid in the bank.
I think MA learnt a lot tonight, some are not good enough for regular Champ games, but I’m sure we all know that players such as CJ and Lavery are very good on their day and used in the correct way.
CJ is deadly off the bench, as is Shane,
We’re talking about players who have made huge steps up in leagues over a very short space of time.
If we paid several million then I’d expect a bit of grief, but come on, we paid peanuts for these guys and they are trying their best.

I think Lavery isn’t an ability thing, to me he just looks completely down in confidence. His body language is nothing like when he first arrived. Still trying hard but just think the belief isn’t there. Not sure how to fix that as with games coming think and fast you can’t carry passengers for long in a brutal league like this one. I’m rooting for him to turn it round, but maybe a 6 month loan is the answer? CJ is limited but you can’t buy pace like his, probably impact sub as you say, don’t see too many starts in his near future…

With Critchley we know the players were given specific roles to play. Now a new regime and a different style of play on the front foot is proving
to be more difficult. People need to support the team.

It's weird that some football fans seem to think that the only thing that affects how good a team is is how good the players are, so, if a team plays badly, lots of players need replacing. They forget that a few weeks ago some of those players looked good. That confidence is key. That leadership changes affect things enormously. That change takes time. Building something new.

There has also been a lack of appreciation from some of what Critch was good at.

1. Clear instructions to individuals.
2. Unity.
3. Confidence building.
4. Staying calm.
5. Involving everybody.
6. Adapting to the strengths of the group.
7. Managing people and maximising their potential.
8. Blending youth with experience.
9. Creating a positive vibe.
10. Transforming Gary Madine's attitude to life.

And running away with his tail between his legs

But chucking us back a couple of million quid.

Maybe our expectations are too high. Reaching the premier league o a small budget was a once only Holloway miracle thing but seems to have permanently altered our entitlement coefficient. Maybe Critch felt he could only sustain us as a really competitive Championship side for so long without bringing in better quality that we couldn't afford. Appleton is now looking for that quality but is only borrowing very young inexperienced versions of it hoping kids can quickly step up.
