how football is now

I knew you'd be along to miss the point eventually. :)

Robbie - Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles can see that it is you who is missing the point - deliberately so and you know it.

You say that other Championship clubs have greater spending power than us and I think it's fair to say that everybody agrees with that.

I think that Simon Sadler's investment in our club gives us an advantage over other clubs who do not have the benefit of such investment, do you agree with that ?

Robbie is flogging a dead horse 🐎

He wants a level playing field so clubs like Accrington can compete with Man Utd like it's the 1930s

I'm sure Robbie makes some good points but he is not willing to accept that we have a financial advantage over some clubs and would rather introduce irrelevancies than accept that.

It's no big deal but he might struggle to convince folk on other matters if he is unwilling to accept the obvious.

He'll accept the argument if you swap BFc/SS for Pilley and The Cods. No difference between these examples imo.

Can you name these clubs over whom we have a financial advantage? We had the lowest budget by some way last season.

Loco

Pilley has got nothing to do with anything but of course if he is willing to put more money into the Cods than other owners are willing to put into their club then the Cods will have an advantage.

We have ended going round the houses after I just stated the obvious, we have a financial advantage over similar clubs who have an owner who is not willing to invest as much as Sadler.

Wiz

It's perfectly possible that we have an financial advantage over a number of similar clubs AND had the lowest budget in the Championship*.

We have a financial advantage over all similar clubs who have an owner not investing as much as Sadler.

All the other clubs in the Championship might have a financial advantage over us.

*For the benefit of the tape, I'm not convinced that we had the lowest budget in the Championship by some way but that's by the by and I'm certainly not suggesting that it is impossible. Without considering any of the other 22 clubs, do you think Barnsley had a wage bill that was bigger than ours by some way ?

I'm only asking the question Wiz, I could be wrong but I'm just not convinced that we had the lowest budget bu some way.

Not suggesting for a second that there are not plenty of clubs in the Championship with a wage bill far bigger than ours, I'm just not convinced that our budget was the smallest by some way, I'm tempted to think that you are exaggerating your point to make a point ?

No, we had the smallest budget because we'd just come up. Whether we spend more this season remains to be seen.

Barnsley spent way more than us, having been in the playoffs the previous season and overhauling the squad as a new manager came in.

Robbie,

I’ve gone through this thread twice and i still don’t see the point you’re making other than there’s a lot of money in the EPL. All of which is generated by a slick marketing machine that encourages overseas investment either directly or indirectly into English clubs.
As a matter of interest, do you still think that if owners do well, then clubs benefit by proxy?

Isn't the point that in L1 we spent a fair bit of money on transfers and that our wage bill would have been higher than a good number of teams. But then the higher up the football pyramid we go then the more wealthier/bigger teams we come up against and so competing with them financially is much harder. That's the way it is and the way it's always been. Long before the advent of the Premier League.

In Robbies world he moans about the imbalance between teams in the EPL who have to compete with each other but fails to accept that that is what happens in the lower leagues too. Probably even going down as far as the National Conference North where I would suggest AFCF are one of if not the biggest financial hitter. As I said, it's double standards from him.

Yep. There’s always a bigger fish. See Real/La Liga’s recent bemoaning of PSG’s spending power. As a dyed in the wool Tory it’s amazing he so socially responsible when it comes to football. Can’t think why...

I was about to say the same thing. I see it as some encouragement that Robbie apparently believes in a fairer society and has a made a start at taking action, albeit within the football pyramid context. 👍

Sorry for not seeing this sooner.

I wouldn't know whether we had the lowest budget in the Champ but have no reason to doubt you.

The original point was that we have an financial advantage over clubs who don't have an owner willing to invest as much as Sadler, that's just obvious and other clubs with owners willing to invest more will have an advantage over us, it's no big deal but I was just wondering whether our supporters who complain about the riches of the Premier League consider our advantage to be fair ?

Should we not share our wealth with Bury ?

We've done this one a million times before and then a few more Wiz, the $64m question is the value of the clubs lower down the pyramid, the top clubs will want to retain as much of the monies that they generate and while nobody is arguing that the clubs lower down the pyramid add value, it's unlikely that all the clubs are going to agree on things.

It was good to see you spreading your wealth at the do on Lee's video, a kind gesture.
