How Not to Run a Football Club - Official Discussion Thread

Just finished the book as well. What an excellent read, I couldn’t put it down once the court proceedings started even though I had been to quite a few days of the main court case and everyone of our other visits down there and to Manchester for the smaller one 👍🏼
I also knew of Maxim Bakiyev and his father and of their relationship with Valeri but was surprised at the brutality of events he organised against his own people especially as similar events are being played out at present in other ex Russian countries today…… thank goodness he never got a chance of being involved at BFC 😳
Ps one small bit of info that you might not have known Foggy related to the transcript of the Paris judgement being translated by Owens best friend to seemingly say what he wanted it to believe…..slightly surprising that nobody ever seemed to see any other version would you think ????

Thanks Mosser

I was definitely sceptical of the sourcing of the Paris transcript and was able to get a different version and rely on some other sourcing.

Think it was myself and Koudo who went to one of the less attended court cases in Manchester and we saw an oldish bloke at the front of the court making notes in short hand like a journalist does. At the end we stopped him to ask which newspaper he was writing for and he answered that he was there to make notes for a book he was writing on Owen Oyston. His name we later found out was Andrew Rawsthorn and he was the one who translated the Paris judgement for Owen. He also told us when we asked when the book was coming out that he didn’t dare release it til Owen died as he would probably get sued as well …….. not bad seeing as he was one of his friends hey? 😂😂

The book is actually out, it's called the Oyston Files. I have no idea why OO would ever want to sue him for it seeing as how it's all just talking about the supposed conspiracy to set him up from the 90s.

There was quite a lot of stuff in Private Eye about this in the 90s.

Blimey...

I got in touch with Michael Murrin a few years back, hoping he might be able to help us oust the scum. He was tight-lipped but spoke about having regard for OO as a respectful adversary. Similar to how VB talks about him. MM said that most of what the old dog gets up to is connected to the occult and I wouldn't believe the half of it.

Edit - the Amazon reviews seem legit 😂

Maybe he’s preparing now for a follow up for when he croaks it? Hopefully that will be soon 😉

A good read, got the ebook, can't believe that is your first book. Amazed you managed to keep it so succinct, I'm sure we all have favourite stories we'd have liked to see validated. The stuff re Valeri's finance was a bit of an eye opener, but we owe him for getting rid.

Brings back a lot of happy and unhappy memories, and amazing that some of the more far fetched stuff on AVFTT was the true story. The bits that still make me angry are those sued, Parky and Thommo, and Derek Spence. The togetherness of this generation of Pool fans, though, may well be unique. Please be nice to each other, I lost a very good friend today, life's too short to be bickering amongst ourselves.

Thanks Foggy, and remember the old saw, you can please all the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but not all the people all of the time.

I attended most days in Manchester and I think I was there as well.
I certainly remember the story about the dodgy translation.

During my boycott years i had a oyston out sign in the back of my van window
cut along story short KOKO saw the sign on M55 and tried forcing me on the hard shoulder
Well that's it really
Brilliant graphical design skills. I love the petty stuff more than the thought about stuff.

I bet less than 10 have been purchased.

I'm sorry for your loss, and this is a lovely message I will try to heed more often. Thank you for reading and I hope better days are ahead for you

Surprise 🤣...my ugly mug in the rear cover photo. I waive any image rights

Just started it. Will be buying a few as pressies for my mates who are fans of other clubs. Delighted with my purchase thus far ! 🧡

We are not sure what the problem is. But he isn't banned, and never has been. If you go to the members section and type his username in, you can see that he is there as an active user.
He says he has of course cleared cookies and hasn’t been able to sign in after 23rd March. It’s funny how this “problem” has happened just as he was critical of this Book though eh? It just seems a big coincidence but what do I know

Good work foggy. Captured the essence of the most tumultuous period in Pool history. If not football history. Oh by the way Yeovil isn't on the south coast. Not even close 😊

I think by now we can all recognise I am, geographically speaking, a dunce. It's south near the coast!

South yep give you that. About 50 miles from the coast so not so near.
Enjoyed so much your efforts in this book. Shall no doubt be giving it a second bite soon enough. I shall get back to you if I discover any other miscalculations 🤔
Good on yer fella 👍

Two chapters in.

Karl was one hell of an utter bellend and the Gary Parkinson stuff is completely and utterly shameful, just vile and disgusting.

I’ll also never forget all the clowns who defended our recruitment pre-season & January wise in the Premier League or them agreeing with the tinpot off the field stuff like £15 lasagne and the pitch covers. I also know for a fact that Ian Holloway went cold calling on local Sports facilities in early December for somewhere to train. The week before the Stoke game. Imagine a Prem Manager having to do that?? They ended up at Lytham Ym in the Sports Hall but the maddest thing was we won the game 1-0. It was incredible what that team achieved with that bowl headed fool holding the purse strings.

“Vein bulgers”… what a shit phrase from some total gooey eyed whoppers supporting him on the old site,

Great read so far, as I’m pissed off and that’s the sign of a good writer.

Round 2 tomorrow.

Happy to have been classified as a Vein Bulger.. 😜

Better that than one of the Oystain's Anal Arachnids! 💩🤡

Never knew you could read mate? 😁

It is a good read though tbf to Nathan 👍

Finished it last night, thoroughly enjoyed the read and couldn’t put it down. Well done Foggy, good to hear it’s been a success.

I've still got a copy of the book for anyone who wants it. I don't ever read books more than once or keep them on shelves for twats to look at/judge my reading habits so whoever wants it can keep it. Please just PM me and I'll try and get it dropped off too if local.

Hardly a coincidence as he's claimed he's been banned numerous times previously.

Blood says it’s a fact, mods say he’s never been banned… has Phil faked his own banning? Has he left his caps lock on when typing his password? 3 games in 8 days coming up, plenty of scope for Critch to get selections and substitutions wrong… coincidence🤔

Finally (finally finally) it seems like some people are getting their copies, so I thought I'd make a thread here for your comments, questions etc, general chat. Looks like WH Smith had their copies ready to pick up yesterday and Blackpool Waterstones have most of the orders placed with them ready to pick up today (general stock for sale in shop not quite ready yet though) and have deliveries out in the post. Amazon has told people April which was in error and are now updating estimated delivery to next week.

Looking forward to all your thoughts. If you spot a typo, don't tell me for a few weeks, the amount of times I proofread it I don't think I could take it just yet!

Book signing/q+a has been postponed from this week as stock hasn't arrived at the Armfield Club and many won't have gotten their orders yet, but will sort out a new date soon.

Happy reading all. Thank you so much for buying, I hope it lives up to expectations. My twitter is @nathanjfogg, send me all your photos please!
Finished reading it. What an absolute brilliant book - fascinating insite into what went on. Excellent to get everyones views on things. I hadn't a clue about the Latvia / Kazakhstan goings on apart from Val getting a criminal conviction from there. May even go back and read it again!

Thanks for writing it Foggy - a superbly written book.

I was with you as well!!! That was the day Crashley was in and nobody knew, Scott and I saw the sign on the door and wandered in after you left.

I've resisted the urge to read it so far as I was saving it for my holiday. Well I'm at the airport so time to get this done

Fact check: Page 197.
City v United was abandoned in 1974 after a pitch invasion. United fans wanted to force the match to be cancelled so they didn't get relegated.
Result stood and down they went.

It was the first match in English football to be stopped after crowd disorder.

Good effort though by the Utd fans 👍

Any response yet from the O's? Bet they've only bought one copy and are sharing it!
