How Not to Run a Football Club

Many of you will already be aware of the book that Blackpool fan Nathan Fogg is writing to be released this September - available here:

Nathan has spoken to KO, Belokon, Holloway, Riga and many more to get every perspective of the Oyston reign.

The book covers the Oyston takeover of the club, when Owen handed over the keys to Vicki and later Karl, why Belokon got involved, the rise to the PL and the fall afterwards.

We spoke to Nathan in our latest podcast - this one is an absolute must-listen for all Blackpool fans:

I've got three on order; one for me - one each for my boys; I never imagined what would unfold when my youngest was born at the end of April in 2009 to judgement day and where we are today. It's his lifetime as a Seasider.

I think it's important that future generations of our fans have something of a recorded history of this period; hopefully never to be repeated, but in the event it turns sour, a source of inspiration.

Just listened to the podcast, clearly a fair bit of detail that many fans won’t be aware of, or have a distorted view.
Just preordered the book, can’t wait for it to come out.

Thank you so much and thanks to everyone else for the kind words and purchases 👍

Thanks all for the feedback.

For those who haven’t listened yet, Nathan tells the story of how the club ended up in Karl’s hands, how Valeri got involved and how interested he is in BFC now, as well as some other crazy stories when the club was in free fall under Jose Riga.

Let us know what you think!

Enjoyed that. Was surprised KO agreed to be interviewed for 3 hours. Wonder if he knows the title of the book?

Nathan has certainly put the time and effort in to talk to many of us who were involved. Personally after being sued for some of the things I posted on here I’m looking forward to him printing some of Karlyboys interview……the truth always comes out in the end doesn’t it?
I bet there’s a few stories not included though hey Mosser. 😉.

Shame to be honest as they would have brought a smile to the majority.

I’ve certainly held nothing back when writing it, everything I’ve been told from the people sued, members of the Knights etc… lots of stories in there

Foggy is wrong though when he said (I think) that we probably would have got to the Championship without Belokon. We didn't start signing decent players til his money and influence arrived. We were in danger of going to League Two.

Yeah I think I agree with that actually, I was talking off the cuff a little. Belokon buying his shares helped get us players like Andy Morrell and Evo. I think what I was trying to say was we managed to pick a very good manager for League One on Grayson at the time.

I agree with that point. KO had a pretty good eye for a good manager, and he let them get on with it. But gave them nowt!

But we absolutely were struggling until Belokons money and influence arrived. We then started signing players. It began in the January 2006 window iirc. Then continued in the summer.

Some of these stories go to prove what an absolute miracle worker Holloway was for three years dealing with Joffrey, it broke him in the end, don't think he's been the same since.

The book is going to be bloody brilliant, Amazon though sorry, I've got Covid trial vouchers 😀

Interesting insight into the transfer "strategy", no scouts, teenage interns doing analysis on our opponents in the PL, Sam Oyston suggesting players despite having no interest in football (the mind boggles).

Will Old Catweazle apply for an injunction to prevent publication? If so, that will be another lost court case to add to his unending list of failure.

Having just got Roy Calley's book for my birthday this might also be a good read for my 'Pool Shelf' - hope it goes well Nathan

I was also at the Rolls Building on the first , a middle & last days of the Oyston Suing / Footie Compensation Day in case you need any thoughts on it but I am sure you are well versed already.

We're becoming a great Club having miracullously recovered from 'yet another fine mess' and yes much credit is due to the Chairman, Board and Mamagement team as well as an exceptional team of players BUT don't underestyimate how much the fans have helped BFC and I hope the book can reflect a little of that.

The fans be it, cleaning and doing voluntary work at the ground to the superb Lee Charles (& Jane) TV have all played their part and tbh deserve free season tickets for making us where we are today. And one thing I have learnt over 50 odd years of general footie supporting is the fans journey can go on and on and on - look at Leicester, even the Cods and US especially. We can go on and it begins again today

UtP - styay United and enjoy life
Cambers
ps I know on father's day, he'd have wanted that for us all
