Massively disappointed as he isn't a football manager. He's a coach and will never be anything more.

That we'd mistakely put another square peg in a round hole...Thommo is a superb No 2, but not a Manager.

I’m not a big fan of good No.2s becoming managers as they tend to fail due to being a different skill set. Look at what happened to Brian Kidd and Steve McClaren although the latter has had some success in Holland. Terry McPhillips wasn’t comfortable being manager either, hence him stepping down!

Taking away the local rivalry element ..... he is currently no 2 at a club chasing promotion to the premier league, so despite his affection for BFC, coming here as a no 2 would be a backward move career wise.
It would also be a risk for him and the club, as he is untried as a proper no 1. (Excluding the interim period under the Oyston circus).
In a lot of cases he would have been moved on from PNE when Alex Neill came into replace Larry. The fact that he was kept on suggests he may feel some degree of loyalty to both Neil and the club An d not be tempted even if we came calling.
