If, as has been reported, the Gov't give the go-ahead for this scheme, and the costs spiral to such eye-watering levels as have been quoted with a finish date well beyond my lifespan, it would seem sensible in my book to try another approach. Surely by starting to build the line both at Leeds and Manchester with contracts given to two different companies and continuing the present building work from London, the line would be finished much sooner, the cost would be less as the inflation expected over the years of construction would be reduced due to the shorter build thus saving money.

I am first to admit that I'm not a financial guru, but it seems to make absolute sense to me, how about you?

Means the Yorkshire folk can infiltrate us even quicker 🤪

At least it's an election bribe that looks like it's being carried through.

We built a tunnel starting at both ends, I dont see why we cant have multiple points being worked on at once. Also surely these companies are submitting fixed prices so price increases should only be in line with inflation.

I'm no economist, but why do they make up cost figures like £100 Billion, if you really do the maths, in real terms the financial burden is the square root of fcuk all to build the new train set, only real investment is that of time.

Sooner we start the job the better.

Or just simply scrap the whole waste of money

This country used to lead the world in infrastructure projects. I agree with Curryman that three starting points would both boost jobs and also get it done quicker.

It would also mean that by being opened sooner it would start taking money & paying for itself, although that will be a long haul.

If its all done sooner, the bill has to be paid earlier. £106 Billion now, any guesses what the real bill will be, I'll start at £216 Billion.

We need improved infrastructure, but does it really need to be this expensive?

To be fair this will help with getting the majority of Manure back to London after their home games at Old Toilet, and take that relief off the main line services.
