I’m curious about immunity?

How certain is this?

Is Covid not just a mutated flu bug?. No one is immune from flu or the common cold. What makes this so different?

The flu is a number of viruses that mutate regularly. After having flu you will have immunity for a period of time against that particular virus.

It is very likely, though not proven, that once having Covid-19 you will have immunity for a period against becoming ill from Coronavirus again. How long for is not known but probably between 1 to 3 years.

It's a Coronavirus, like flu and like the common cold. However it is particularly virulant and there is no vaccine. It kills a lot of people and requires stealth to deal with. We know this because it's been top of the news for f....ing ages.

It's far too early to have any certainty. It's impossible to know if there will be even 1 year of immunity when it's only been circulating for 8 months, maximum.

You get immunity from any flu variant for a decent time period normally. I think this is the unknown quantity as yet with covid, but if so it buys time till a vaccine is developed, like with other flu strains that people can get vaccinated for.

I listened to a Cambridge virologist on radio 4 yesterday. To say he put a dampener on a vaccine is an understatement. No chance within 12 months and it's a distinct possibility one may never be found.

Again can’t dispute that.
The 12 month window is when experts state we can realistically gauge the percentage of deaths caused by covid based on retrospective deaths per capita per year.
