Ian Evatt.... The Risk

Obviously I'm a fan of the man, and I appreciate the link he has with our club and wish him every success.

But....

Yes, he's done a fantastic job, this season at Barrow AFC in the National League, but how does that compare to Dave Challinor at FYLDE with four promotions in five years to the National League?

Would you take Challinor on with a proven track record?

I doubt it!

We've just sacked a safe promotion bet with Grayson, so who on earth wants to take on the risk of the inexperienced Ian Evatt in League_1?

Me! 😁

I'm in two minds where Evo is concerned....It is a big step up and there are probably safer bets out there..

But, if it's a choice between Evo and Heckingbuttocks, then I'd take my chances with Evo and see where it goes any day of the week.

Nathan Jones really is the obvious choice. Recent success in league one with a team that scored a shed load of goals. And a similar sized club. And currently out of work.

He didn't do well at Stoke, but then neither did Rowett and neither is o'Neill who are both good managers. There's something underlying at Stoke.

I'd be amazed if he wasn't on the boards shortlist.

Evo doing what hes doing currently with worse players, if theres a chance he can do that here it's worth a go.

He knows the club and is playing the ollie way attacking and dominating.

That and him will bring the crowds.

The players should flourish just enjoying trying to score goals and weve seen what that positivity can do.

His passion for BFC is going to be right up there.

Anyone see that long avftt article on him.. they call them barrowcelona.

With those tactics and style here with investment and our loud support we could be amazing.

Give Evo a chance, but we'd need to be patient and stand by him. He's still learning his trade as a manager. No turning on him if there's a few bumps in the road. Get him on a good contract and set him realistic and sensible goals.

Evo has just signed a much improved contract at Barrow ( to stave off the AFC approach )
You’d think that there’d be compensation payable
I’d also guess we’d have to wait until the summer to land him
That said it would be my ideal choice
The style of football is one to attract the crowds and he’s got a real affinity with the club
Agree that Jones would be another good appointment
Not sure about Heckingbottom

Evo for me. I don't buy the inexperienced angle. He's coaching players, he's giving a style of play and he's managing people. I'd go for it.

Again another vote for nathan Jones who had 51% win rate at Luton whilst evo currently has 45% win rate. Would love evo back but for me think it's too soon.

I think the bond he has with the club and supporters is the main difference. Plus getting success with a wealthy club is totally different to that in Barrows position. Having met him a few times and heard some of his post match interviews he comes across very well. If we want a modern coach, who wants to play football the right way and show a bit of passion, he would make a good choice.

I would take a punt on Evo over some of the suggestions and names being banded about, names like Warnock, Heckinbottom, Coyle etc.

We need someone young with fresh ideas and Evo could be that man. That said Nathan Jones would be a great appointment.

Nathan Jones would be first choice on experience alone..........but I would be very happy with Evatt, especially given the other so called choices, I'd take either of those two over Heckinbotton, Coyle, Bowyer and Warnock.

The dream ticket for me would be to appoint Evatt and bring back Steve Thompson as Assistant Manager.

Win, lose or draw we will be good to watch - and as I get older I would rather be entertained than watch a turgid 1-0 win.
