Iceland v England

Poor stuff so far, including the officials. How they couldn't see Kane was miles onside l'll never know.

The commenter (Alan Smith) is trying to make excuses now. Apparently the ball isn't fizzing along because the pitch isn't quite as short as PL pitches!

We won our last Nations League.
We got to the World Cup semis
We qualified with ease for the Euros.

Overhyped crap??
Some have us as one of the very best teams in the world. We can't even break Iceland down. We lose to France, Belgium, Spain, Germany and several other countries in a competitive game every day of the week. So yeah, overhyped and today we have been crap.

Yes today we were crap - but we were the best team and won.
Nobody ever thinks we are bankers against Germany, Spain France or the like and nobody says we are the best in the world . So how are we crap and overhyped.
The fact is that England are ranked fourth in the world so yes they are one of the best.

Rankings dont mean anything, just because we are ranked 4th doesn't mean we are the 4th best team in the world yet some people go on like we are. The 4 counties I named would beat us. For years we have been overrated, with huge expectations going into tournaments only to do nothing. We obviously aren't gonna agree to on this so I'll leave you too it.

Difficult timing to be fair, and not the full squad, but pretty shyte nonetheless.
Would like to see Grealish get some game time.
Let’s see if playing with ‘better’ players can lift him up to international standard or not.

This is the mentality of the English. I despair. You just expect us to turn up anywhere with no respect for the opposition and win. You can't even be happy with the win. Yes we were poor today but there are reasons for that being the first game back. It's arrogant to just expect England to just roll everybody over every time. A wins a win and England's record the last few years has been very good.

Where did I say that we should be rolling over them? If we played well and won 1-0 I wouldn't care. I go off the performance in these matches more than the result. We were terrible today, unimaginative, alot of sideways and backwards passing and with the quality that is in that team we should be doing better. This is why I'm saying we are over hyped, when you have fans that think we are going to win the Euros it's probably unrealistic. I hope I'm proved wrong, but I prefer to have more realistic ambitions. If we get to the semi's I will be more than happy.

It was the bit where you said we can't even break Iceland down. That implies they are crap and we should be winning easily.
If Blackpool beat Plymouth 1-0 next week but don't play very well would you still be on here moaning about it? I think you'd just take the win wouldn't you?

We couldnt even break them down to creat chances, how many chances did we have that game? Not very many. If we are creating chances then that instills confidence in me.
If you look above I did comment that I was glad we won. If we beat Plymouth next week and play badly I will still be glad that we won, but I will also be saying that we have to do better which is exactly what I'm saying with England. We need to have more realistic expectations of England. We're not the world beaters that we used to be.

The 1st of Walker's yellow cards was harsh but he was plain stupid making that 2nd challenge. Denmark on Tuesday will prove a much tougher task but at least they will try to win, as opposed to Iceland's anti-football tactics.

I didn't even know it was being played until someone mentioned it late on Saturday night. I managed to watch the highlights lowlights on a +1 channel & it assisted with making me want to go to bed. Glad as always we won & will probably watch the next game if it's on any of the channels I've got.

Was today's game played at Stanley Park sports arena?.
The pitch was uneven, with a dip in it about 25 yards out from one of the pen areas, and the grass longer that it should have been for a professional football match. The ref was of a poor standard and should only be allocated Sunday Lg games in future. Iceland parked the team bus and showed no adventure despite being the home team. England gave one of their worst performances since WW2.

Is that how Iceland play all the time? Constantly play for the 0-0 draw? It’s just they actually do it quite well but it must get tedious to watch after a while.

Iceland`s population is 341,000 England`s is 56,287,000 and some wonder why they play defensively and why we criticise England`s performance. It was pretty pathetic from a team selected from what some claim is the best league in the world.Without that undeserved penalty we would never have scored and created nothing of any note . Their keeper had nothing to do despite our domination of possession which when you look at the midfield Southgate picked is hardly surprising.

Have to agree with that, was much the same at Euro ‘16, where again, we needed a penalty to actually score.
Amazing to think if we played Iceland in a major tournament I think they would do a job on us.
