Good news.

However only issue is with the Odeon closing or due to, this being the only cinema and in town, if you uave to pay for parking...

Surely they should do a deal to park for free or very cheap in the houndshill or something.

Another big investment in the town, someone knows something I don’t to be spending all this cash on 5 star hotels and expensive attractions

With inflation, cost of living increases it could be the very thing that that almost destroyed the town (cheap holidays abroad) will be unattainable for a big chunk of the population going forward, could be something to capitalise on.

Will the Netflix generation even be bothered about going to the cinema!
IMAX is next level. Not even close to watching at home. Like watching actors perform the movie live for you.

Wonder if they'll show one of my favourite films, The 39 Steps (1935 version)

Explain please..never been to one
I've only been once and it is highly detailed. I felt like I was watching Hobbits crawl about on a mountain directly in front of me. Sound also highly immersive. A definite upgrade on your average flick.

It's great for the town, IMAX is ** ace.
So IMAX isn't the cinema, like odeon or Vue, as they can have IMAX too? Its the screen and tech, basically the best a cinema can be isn't it?

I've never been to one.

Plus it'll be one of the largest screens in the country.

Odeon or Vue wouldn't be able to fit the screen in.

You know 4K? IMAX is like 23K.
Speaking of special effects I remember way back when going to see Friday 13th Part 3 in 3D. Some bonkers chainsaw type action and some exceptionally pneumatic young ladies on show if I recall correctly. Wasn't a patch on Piranha 3 - Flying Killers though 👍

It's ok improving the picture & sound quality, we've had 3D & sensor-round in the past, but there seem to be few decent films that aren't wall to wall CGI & utterly ridicules.

I still need to see top gun and it's still on at cinemas, mostly all real jet footage I think and his own stunts and flying done.

TBF something like that would probably be ok, but it's yet another sequel as I think they've ran out of ideas.

We had numerous cinemas in Blackpool at one time, one by one they all closed, like the Odeon Dickson road, the ABC etc. The New Odeon on Rigby road struggles to get bums on seats. A night out at the Cinema is expensive too, even without the Litre of Coke and popcorn. People have big TV's at home these days and can sit in comfort watching what movies they want. Subscriptions to Netflix, Amazon etc have also reduced the cinema going public. Just wait until the Blu ray comes out and buy that. We keep making the same mistakes in Blackpool another Cinema will go like the rest after the novelty of I-Max wears off. I can't see why we can't just build another car park Blackpool is excellent at those. Oh yes, I forgot, we are.

You can make anything sound shit when you put it like that. Why watch a movie when you can stay in and watch telly? Why go out for a meal when you can cook whatever you want at home? Socialising with friends is costly when you can just use the internet and type messages to people online. Don't waste time going to gigs, just put the CD on the home entertainment system or listen to the radio.

It's pretty obvious the idea is to increase footfall in town and this will 100% do it with people going shopping and for meals before/after.

Agree, and the millions of visitors to the town, many who stay in hotels and b & bs, won’t be sitting in watching TV, I’m quite sure many of those will go.

Its one of many projects to increase footfall, improve the cinema experience on offer with bigger better.

18 million or more visitors a year should mean its a success, plus local support.

The only issue I have is parking is free at the odeon where is isn't here.

Unless they did some cinema deal with houndshill for locals.

I stopped going to the Odeon yrs ago, due to the massive costs, last time I saw, it was £8 a ticket!!! to sit in a poorly maintained or cleaned room with kids sending each other texts or whatnot.

I saw the Top Gun movie in Spain recently (English version) at a clean well maintained cinema for 4euros each...

Im not surprised the Odd Iron is closing (is it??) unsustainable, vastly overpriced "snacks"...

On the rare occasions I go to the cinema (so far this year just Top Gun & the MCU Movies) I usually go to the new Reel Cinema in Chorley. £12'50 for the VIP Lounge and it includes a free glass of orange juice on arrival, popcorn or Nachos, Beer or Soft Drink & a Magnum brought to you about 1/2 way through. Failing that it's the £5 cheapo deal at Cleveleys Vue

You can get deals with meerkat movies, if you butly insurance with them or take any cheap insurance with compare the market, you can get 2 for 1 on certain days. Plus meerkat meals with lots of deal there, used to be 2 for 1.

Also Vodafone do the deal for Vue and 2 for 7 quid, which can be used weekly and were going to use this week.

Probably more, so pays to take advantage of them.
