Incoming signing - Mitchell signed

I get that and to be absolutely honest I didn’t even know young Mitchell had been on trial with us - after so many years of “A Trialist” on the team sheet it’s hard to keep up and obviously a lot of you pay a lot more attention to football than I do these days to say the least. I’m glad so many of you are so interested and so well informed as I’d be even more clueless!
The fact he's been training with us a couple of weeks make me even more happy about the deal, as he must have shown something to Critch to seal the deal.
Gone are the days of us signing someone because he was cheap and daft enough to join.

Interesting signing - He’s obviously got something about him to be kept on United's books for 13 years despite not making the breakthrough...

He almost seems like a wannabe winger though who’s been moulded into a defender - so I hope we’re defensively sound enough to cover when he’s bombarding forward and I’m worried he may be one of them show pony types? Though he does seem to get stuck in tbf...

It certainly gives us another outlet though in a position we need cover for. Will be interesting to see how he will fit into the team and if he secures a place over husband or pushed husband to the LCB position which he played very well.

Mitchell will make space for other forward players when bombarding forward as well as creating plenty of chances of his own and he’s not afraid to shoot so one to get fans off their seats, should we be on them.

We have a good spread though. Sometimes we've been trying to fit square pegs into round holes.
Yes we do. A well constructed squad. Is it strong enough in defence and midfield? Have we got the goalscorers? Maybe.

I am chuffed with this signing, all we need is a RB, CB and a striker. I think ones who will leave is Howe on loan, feeney and Devitt and I think that is the team sorted 👍🏻

I think Lubala will score close to 20. With the team we have I also think he will be the leagues top goal scorer.

I don't think we have that 20+ a season striker but I do think we have maybe 4 or 5 who could get double figures. Over reliance on Gnando was our weakness last season so here's hoping.
That's possible I think. But they might get 5 or 6 each! We struggled to create chances at Stoke last week. We're just going to have to wait and see!

It’s almost Ollies vision enacted?
To build a stable financial club we need to be selling on players every season for good money - otherwise it’s the owners pockets.

By signing so many young prospects there’s a good chance one will be sold for huge profit at the end of the season regardless of promotion. I’d then trust SS to give Critch the lions share to invest and then go again.
Brentford have done it brilliantly last few years and Peterborough have also done well too with unearthing strikers in non league.

So far we have only really played teams with a higher quality since the players have started to settle. It will certainly be interesting to see the difference creating more chances against teams to a lesser standard.

Just a mobile attacking right back ,quality experienced centre half and maybe another quality centre mid on loan (KDH style) and we have a team that has the potential to blast out of this division...fantastic work by all involved...really exciting times and anyone not on board the Critchley express cannot be a true Blackpool fan. It could still all go wrong if the time dont gel but this new management team and owner have really given it a go. Hopefully we can soon all get back to watching them play as for once the fan base will be as one united behind the team. UPTMP

This is exactly it.
In the past our managers have been scraping around begging to sign players in the hope one of them will pay off. When they did, like Ince & Phillips, the money vanished from the club forever.
If it happens now, with the ridiculous fees that are involved, the training ground would be paid for, to use one example.

I keep saying it, a club the size of ours can't progress in any other way.

Clear quality but the concern was whether he might breakdown. Our training regime would have found this out by now hence the green light given. Great signing!

I would hope he's had a full medical with scans etc to assess the impact of the knee injury.

Players get injuries, sometimes bad ones, most recover just fine. Hopefully this proves to be the case with a few of the signings we've made. It seems we have taken a few on who have had set backs in the hope NC and our coaching team can rebuild them. We'll need be far more supportive than we have been with such young kids, certain elements of our fan base need to stop looking for scapegoats or targeting players.

Just had breakfast with one of my mums friends who is a huge Heart's fan. He rates Mitchell so highly and said that was getting better game by game for them. Apparantly he was even above Williams in the pecking order at United untill his injury. If he can get back to be half the player he was, we have an absolute gem on our hands. All very positive so hopefully he gets back to full fitness then he could prove to be a big signing for us.

If he was above Williams then United must have had major concerns about his knee to let him go? Harsh world innit?!

Fingers crossed his knee will stand the test of time.

What’s particularly impressive is how they have built this team in such a short space of time. They are doing a fantastic job of selling this BFC dream and future vision.
I think as the scouting team were not furlough Ed, this team has been 5 months or more in the making

Solskjar thought he was a possible for 1st team squad at one point, so it would be age plus injury related lack of games during the crucial development period ( hopefully!). He’s mustard from most of what I’ve seen so far, barring one glaring positional error.

You can read our insight piece on Mitchell here:

Looks really strong ability wise, particularly going forwards, but recent injury problems will be the key thing the club will have been monitoring over his trial period.

If his injury troubles are behind him, and it is a big if, he could be a really, really good signing once he is fully fit and has put a bit of muscle on.
From those highlights he looks like he was more than holding his own in the Scottish Premier League; he should be more than capable of shining in League One.

His bad injury is a worry naturally, hopefully it will stand up to league 1 football. However, didn't Crainey recover from a similar thing and go on to successfully get back in the team regularly for several seasons after his recovery? I could be wrong on that so someone correct me if so. The point being that players do go on to have very successful careers after very bad injuries, and shouldn't necessarily hold them back. This signing maybe carries a slight risk but it's definitely one worth taking considering his obvious ability.

Thanks. Interesting read that. Wasn’t aware he had done a trial there. 👍

Just a few selected comments:

“Blackpool are going to have some serious pace through their team.”

“They’re putting together a squad of promising, dynamic players there. Lots of dice rolls so who knows how it’ll turn out but it wouldn’t exactly surprise me if they finish above us this season.”

“I think you’re in for a shock if you think Blackpool will be shite (by league 1 standards) this season.”

“I think they'll be right up there personally.”

Some valid points on the player cap and voting to end the previous season, but with the 1st point: everyone knew the score; 2nd point: something had to be done at that time.

Many comments about lack of pace in their team. That was us last season. Most teams in LG1 find pedestrian sides very easy to deal with. Thank God for NC & SS.

Was quiet balanced from there fans that actually.

A couple of whopper comments about us being immoral. Just laughable. 🤣.

Did Sunderland vote to end last season early? I’m not sure?

But I can bet my bottom dollar they voted against the salary cap. Because it’s in their interest to spend way above their means And In their thinking blow other smaller teams out of the water financially. Some would say immorally so.

You would imagine that we have done every possible test to ensure his knee is as it should be, so we have to have faith with our backroom team.

Re the point made above about him being released by United after being so highly rated by them; it may well be that he was ahead of Williams, but they felt that the injuries stunted his development to the extent where at 23 he was unlikely to progress and play at the level required for a club like United. That doesn't mean he won't be capable of being an absolute superstar in League One and even the Championship.
