Is Critch the best manager in the league?

Agree. Our shape is the best it has been in a long long time, resulting in rare losses

No. Not yet anyway. Still learning the ropes. Ferguson, Lowe, Appleton, probably even Cowley still more advanced. But that’s the exciting thing, he’s developing with the whole club.

I don't think you can easily compare managers between the clubs in this league, because there are significantly different circumstances at each club - not least how much they get to spend.

Other teams have been built over a few years our was thrown together as the season commenced. Critch is up there with the best of them.

You can stick the bag of spanner faces Fergie and Appleton up your **** Critch far better than the pair of them put together.

As said in the article, we've been without 7 of our first 11 for some time now during our fantastic run of form. Critch plays to a pattern which makes it easy for squad members to step in and fill the vacancies. Every player knows his part which is the sign of a top notch coach. The foundations are well and truly in place, the flair I've no doubt will follow.

When LG left the building and NC was still an unknown my shout was for Ryan Lowe.
It was a brave move when SS opted for an appointment based purely on coaching credentials which imo was always going to need support and patience from the outset.
Some of those quotes and a good few more besides seem a bit hasty to say the least.
I think it is safe to say now that the whole Club is looking unrecognisable from what we've had in the past and, on the playing side at least, Critchley has played a big part in that.
The structure is the main thing and we are ahead of the game with that.

If this is the progress he has made in one (unfinished) season, what has he in store for the future?

A provocative headline certainly, but there is not a coach in the league who I would want instead of NC at the helm.

Agreed it’s a bit of a sweeping stake, and certainly the likes of Paul Cook and Grant McCann might have something to say about it, but the job that Critchley and his team has done in the circumstances has been phenomenal up to this point.

It is too early to tell, I think we will know better at the end of the season. For me, Critchley has to have success and gain
promotion to be considered the best

😂 agree to disagree. As much as I’d like to agree, I think Critch is learning every day. Ask me the same question next year and I’ll probably be more likely to side with you

As has been pointed out it’s too early to say. I was happy when he was appointed because it was something a bit left field, rather than poaching someone successful ATM or another recycled member of the managerial merry go round. Now after the time he & his team have had we’re starting to see genuine improvement. It’s a shame we seem to have more than our fair share of serious injuries & that in itself may turn out to be our Achilles heel, hopefully not though. Ask this question again in around a year & I think you would have a clearer picture. ATM I’m happy with him 👍👍👍

You can tell he is clearly improving at his managerial duties, the fact he's been able to positively change two games now (Burton, Plymouth) shows he is learning from earlier in the season when we've been hopeless as soon as we fall behind.

Is he the best manager in the league? Probably not. But the results as of late with the amount of players we have out suggests he's up there, which is impressive in itself considering it's his first full season in senior football.

Is this the same Ferguson who changed things twice to try and deal with Critchley's tactics on Tuesday but failed miserably to deal with what is our second string?

I'm not sure there is anyone better. Certainly not Ferguson, who Critchley hs completely outwitted twice this season. Nor Appleton, whose team has unravelled.

I don't think I would swap NC for any other boss in this division. None of them are perfect and NC has clear strengths and he will keep learning and improving. He will also continue to attract players, helped by articles in national newspapers where players like Ballard and Gabriel talk about what a great place the club is to learn and improve, thanks to NC's advanced coaching skills and man management.
