Get rid-Over 600k people pinged in one week many fit & healthy and thousands tested negative but have to isolate.

Keep-The technology is working and helping stop the spread in communities.

Modify-The sensitivity could be turned down is one example.

I know for a fact there are people waltzing about with the app and symptoms turned on with the sole intention of getting people pinged. You'd be a mug to opt in to this thing.

I've now deleted the App after it telling me to self isolate for 6 days, seven days after being in the venue!

I personally believe it was a good idea, but too many faults . It really does need a complete overhaul . Being pinged for being in a place where someone has posted a positive COVID test , when in reality your paths may never have crossed, is the main problem .

Am in isolation this week. Employers asked me to go on a trial where I take a latteral flow test everyday and if negative can go to work but not to the footy, cinema or pub. Fortunately for me when I applied they contacted me and put me in a group where I was to take a pcr test and continue isolating. Boss was annoyed lol!.
As it happens on annual leave next week and my first day of leave overlaps with my last day of isolation. Was informed as I'm not sick will not be able to claim the day back.

A mere £37Billion I believe,... Money well spent on a mate of Boris* no doubt.

* no actual proof... but I like a bit of Boris bashing... However the alternative is piss poor too..

Dunno, no one does, the whole thing is wildly unpredictable, it might get worse, it might get better, literally no one has a clue.

They should use that as a slogan for their massively expensive white elephant run by a well connected wanker, stick it on a t shirt, just a picture of Dido Harding with 'I'm fucked if I know' in blood red letters, it might help recoup some of the money she pissed away.

75% goes on testing, are you saying we should abandon that?

The app itself cost a trivial amount in the grand scheme of things.

Never bothered with it to start with as it sounded like it was built with the same sort of technology as that thing where supposed grown-ups were chasing imaginary pokemons around with their phones a few years ago.

Mask on, avoid others, watching what you touch with your finger ends, wash hands frequently, LF tests and a double vaccination has got me this far so far. Ended up as a germophobe but I'd rather that than an app ruling my life.

Yep, never had a smartphone so I don’t bother with the T&T app. I simply adopt a policy of double vaccination, and self-isolation most of the time, except for essential shopping. And will do until this latest wave has passed. There’s not much to miss at the moment and anything worthwhile seems to come with a lot of restrictions and hassle like testing, forms, queues, social distancing etc that makes it less worthwhile. Thankfully, it’s summer and the countryside is still available and free of hassle.

Money well spent clearly.

How much did it cost? And who profited?

I'm thinking we are in agreement on something ?

Just the £15bn budget last year and ended up costing £22bn and just another £15bn allocated for this year.

So just £37bn over 2 financial years and for what ?

I don't have any definite evidence but I am told that both the coppers and the NHS have switched off, at least in some parts and obviously unofficially.

As for who has profited, again I wouldn;t know but if it was possible to break down where every penny of that £37bn had ended up I'm sure it wouldn't make good reading for some.

They might be able to get away with everything - cost/failure of scheme/propriety - because of the need to get something in place so quickly but I'd be struggling to see it as anything less than a big fail.

Yes. Amazingly it looks as if we might agree on something 😧

Yes. Needs shelving. Along with testing for all apart from those showing symptoms. No need for others to isolate either. If you’re unwell you stay off work and recover from home. Need to start treating this like a normal cold / flu, otherwise the country will cease to function.

The Trace part of T&T has been used farcically. The strategy should be to use public health measures and restrictions (inc travel bans) to limit infections to small pockets, low numbers of people. Then the T&T process works by identifying ALL contacts (still small numbers, relatively) and including them in isolation. That way the virus is isolated from the general population.

What Dido has done is fail to use T&T properly a few months ago with low numbers, Johnson lets in the Indian variant which explodes into the population and T&T is now working overtime when we have more than 30,000 new cases every day. With there being probably 4 or more close contacts for each case we might soon be running at a million pings a week. Thus shutting down the workforce. Much too late and much too much from T&T now. The understanding of the needs and application of public health strategy has been dire throughout.

Services business Serco has raised its profit forecast by millions of pounds thanks to growing demand for Covid-19 test and trace provision.
The outsourcing giant, which runs part of the NHS Test and Trace, said demand is likely to remain strong and continue for longer than had been expected.
It expects profits to be £15m higher than expected at £200m for the year.
It is the second time Serco, which also runs transport and prison services, has upgraded profits due to test and trace.

As well as tracing people who may have come into contact with those infected by coronavirus, Serco runs some of the testing sites.
The test and trace system got off to a rocky start last year and was criticised for being less effective than local public health teams.
