Is Trotters v Pie Eaters a Derby

What's the criteria for a Derby these days? Just looked up and takes half an hour to get from Wigan to Bolton. Both in Greater Manchester but is that a Derby? Can't imagine there is any rivalry at all between the teams?

Yes, only 7.5 miles between the two grounds. I know Bolton moved away to Horwich, but for younger generations they are now very close.

I’d say Bolton vs Wigan is a derby. No great distance between the two. If Palace and Brighton counts as a derby, then Wigan/Bolton definitely does.

Bolton v Wigan is a new ‘growing’ derby. Wigan have definitely manufactured it like Fleetwood have with us but it’s definitely at the point where it’s considered rivalry now.

Mind you, Bolton think they only have Man U so that’s even more ridiculous.

Wigan hate Bolton and I think it’s pretty much vice versa now too. Of course it’s a derby.
