The euphoria of reaching 3rd place and ( potentially) meeting “ easier” opponents in the S/F, has induced a
feeling of “ job done”. Complacency is dripping off our lap tops. Wouldn’t it be just like Pool to draw 1-1 on Sunday, allowing both the Maclean’s and Lincoln to re-take 3rd and 4th spot ? This is not done yet, and we may face the usual troubles against “teams like this”. I’ll take 1-0 now.

I don't see it like that at all. However, the target at the beginning of the season was to be in or around the playoffs. That has been met.

I'm sure it's now being reset by the club to go as far as we can in those playoffs. Whatever happens it will be deemed to have been a good season.

Fear not Middx, Bristol Rvrs can’t beat an egg - my BRFC mate told me that a few weeks back and the Sunderland fans sight says the. Same about Sunday

Feel free to put your £1 where you like though

We will beat Bristol.

There are no easy teams but they are all not great either. Look at Sunderland ......very poor and just been pushed out of 3rd place.

I don't see any complacency, I see Pool fans celebrating a great end to the season, with an exciting team and a great management team. We are still in the mix, and enjoying seeing our new stars on the box, hopeful; we can see them in the flesh.

It is not a binary choice, promotion or failure, just like life, it is more nuanced.

We, as much as any club understand the play offs and whilst our record is very good, it is a lottery. When you take the 3 losses we, the first 2 against Torquay and Bradford we came into them gutted not to have gone up automatically. The last loss against West Ham was the anomlie in that we came into the play offs in form and performed brilliantly on the day. There are no guarantees but feel we have as good as chance as any but do need some of our injured players to recover, especially Ward.

Or... we’ll hammer them because they’re shit, managed by that gobshite and they can’t wait for the season to end. We’ll be up for this I promise you.

Happy to land in whatever spot we do, Charlton or Oxford sneaking in on the last day would have them

It's only us, the fans, who understand the play-offs as much as any club. This set of players and management weren't with us on any of our previous campaigns. OK, the owner was but he was just a fan like the rest of us.

These lads are fighting for the shirt and their own pride, they’ll want to finish with a good win. Critchley will also want momentum to take us into the playoffs and make the opposition fear us.

Cowley is new to Pompey but he keeps stressing on how they need to break their playoff hoodoo of no wins in 8 attempts, following on from Lincoln having 7 campaigns and never winning.

Even though its not those players it will be a factor and our record similarly is an advantage

The psychological edge....? OK, I'll buy it.

Barton’s had a go at the players going down with a whimper & he said he wouldn’t have chosen them. Whilst he won’t want to be stuffed by us his comments are hardly motivating. But as has been said 100% effort needed.

That's true but it seems to me that this team, or should I say squad, are 100% together and can focus in a big game. There's no reason to think they're going to blow it, quietly confident seems more like it. They aren't quitters. Finishing 3rd would give us the perfect start to the lottery. Just hope for decent referees. I feel quite calm about it. No doubt I'll be a quivering wreck before too long 😂

This is objectively true, but the same is true of our Rochdale hoodoo and that still struck! This, if the Rochdale/Shrewsbury voodoo still works against us, then our play off magic should equally be intact.

Pure science that.

Only chatting about this recently how certain teams hold an Indian sign over us for years when players, managers, and even owners are totally different! Odd.

All logic suggests that 'hoodoo's' and 'indian signs' are nonsense, but you can't deny the facts. For example, when we were promoted in 2001, during the season we lost both home and away to Shrewsbury (by exactly the same scores as this season). We also lost home and away to Chesterfield, and in 06/07 we also lost at Chesterfield. Three seasons (inc. this one) where we had a really good side and yet still lost to the same teams. It is a bit weird! So in a strange way historical records do seem to matter, for some odd reason, even though it must be coincidence.

I think it’s an opportunity to win promotion to the Championship this season that must be taken because next year we will be competing against clubs with new owners with big budgets such as Ipswich, Wigan and Sunderland so let’s get it done this year!

i'd be more concerned if charlton scraped in 6th spot - had some very good recent results and hitting form - they have hull last game though

Absolutely!
There is a lot of work ahead.

I don’t know what’s going to happen. I do know I’m happy with the clubs performance this season.
The next 3 games are going to be heart palpating for most of us on here.

Anyone with sense will be looking at the play offs and saying there will be 4 evenly matched teams playing each other. It’s positive that we’ve beaten the teams around us, but we’ve also struggled against Lincoln, who will feel they are never out of the game against us.

We’ve as good a chance as anyone, but only if we perform on the day. Players coming back is helpful too as you suspect we’ll need the squad. The only negative for me will be the likely absence of Madine and CJ. Both would be massive assets in the squad.
