It's a weak, weak league and given the squad of players the club has assembled promotion was a realistic expectation

Brilliant performance again today against what was a tough team on paper

Just goes to show how good we can look when the shackles are loosened and shows again what a fantastic job Simon Sadler has done in backing the coach with considerable investment

With so many players out injured we are now seeing the benefits of Sadler’s spending power

We really are lucky to have him

I don't think we have ever had such investment from our owner

Was told today from someone in the know that we have the 3rd highest wage budget in the league

Isn't it fabulous

Just think how much better we'd be with Critchley out and Fat Sam orchestrating set pieces and long throws to the big lads.

Good post. Let's hope we go up.

The O/P has made himself look like a very silly man with his posts over the course of this season.

I've said it once and I'll say it again. It's a good job we don't have somebody like Phil running our club. Unable to have the foresight to see past the slow start. Maintaining time and time again that Critchley wasn't good enough. Too stubborn to admit he was wrong.

I'm glad it's worked out how it has done. Well done Simon Sadler. Well done Critch and your staff. Well done the players. Keep proving people like the O/P wrong 👍🏻

I think a good few on here have got things wrong this season on the manager/coach and results in general.

I could name no more than half a dozen people on here who have not only predicted a play off place all season but said we must stick with Critchley at all cost.

I’am man enough to hold my hand up and say sadly I wasn’t one of them after 10 games in.

I'm sorry young Phil but it's more fake news from you. (Just like your Gretarsson post)
When the squad was assembled the Club was working within the wage cap.
I'm not discrediting in any way, shape or form Simon Sadler's personal contribution but the players wages are no more than last season.
Just be happy without the riders and accept that Neil Critchley is a better manager than Simon Grayson was and that Sam Allardyce/Neil Warnock would have been.

Great post-erudite, concise and absolutely bang on the money.
A much better effort than the old 'plea for patience' threads* that were simply a deflection of the parsimonious ways of the O's

At least you'll be able to walk around BR with your head held high when fans return.👍

The OP certainly hasn't

He's been proven right on numerous occasions

- lack of experience in the dug out - sorted
- lack of experience in the team - sorted
- lack of a strong spine - sorted
- lack of freedom given to the creative players - sorted
- lack of tactically nouse and inability to change systems - sorted
- lack of a physical presence and the ability to out fight teams - sorted

Looking good now isn't it ?

FFS how long did it take Sir Alex to get it right?
Longer that Critch that's for sure.

It's not even a weak, weak league this season so that's another hopeless assessment.

The top five have all played some very good League 1 standard football at various times and given 6th place will probably be either Charlton or Ipswich, there's going to be some decent teams not going up this season.

Compare that to the promoted three of Wycombe, Coventry and Rotherham from last year and this season looks to be far stronger.

Just to add the latest published accounts are to 30.06.19.
The wage bill 30.06.2018 was £4.2m and 30.06.2019 was £4.7m
The wage cap as at 31.10.2020 was £2.2m.

You would have got rid of Critchley in October. Who knows what impact that would have had. I can only reiterate that instability is never good.

Some of the business was done prior to the wage cap. I think we had 6 signings for whom the wage cap wouldn't apply and obviously Turton, Madine, Ward, Thorniley, Maxwell and a few others as hangovers from the previous season. We definitely wouldn't have a wage bill of 2.2 million.

Agree, the pieces started to come together once we brought Calderwood in as assistant, Dougall coming into the team, and when Critch decided to try 442 for the first time.

Yep its certainly stronger as there are more teams in it and the league hasn't been compromised like last season

I know that but Phil doesn't deal in precise facts and there's still a £2m discrepancy and the 3 alleged highest wage earners weren't signed by Critch.

That's true, but you've still got to offset that against a massive drop in matchday income.

I'm bowing out now, I'm not coming between you and Phil.

Have fun.

He still won’t give Critch any credit

States it’s down to the league being ‘very very weak” and we have basically bought our way into this position.

Come on Phil give Critch some respect and credit I know it hurts .

Yes Critch has been supported magnificently by Simon Sadler but Critch has coached these players.

I just like to joust with Phil on his thread to keep his averages up.
He's a proper fan and a good batsman (just between me and you 😉 )

Utter bullshit the salary cap was brought in 7th August in that time Maxwell,Hamilton,Yates,Robson,Ekipeteta just name a few who had signed before that date so exempt from the cap and not included those already here on higher wages like Madine.

Incorrect

I said it after Ipswich away during February

Before then i didn't call for him to go at all

Granted I wasn't happy with the appointment nor did i understand it given the other people we were speaking to at the time

But to suggest i asked for him to be sacked back in October is just plain wrong

Do you accept that Critchley might have been the correct choice now?

Phil.
That is your worst ever response.
This is the 2020/2021 season which started when?
I know when accounts are run, granted I'm not an accountant like your good self but quoting figures that are actually out of date to make a point is a bit silly

For example Kevin Stewart is on 6k a week and will not be included in your figures

Will he?

That's even worse because we weren't in a bad place in Feb.

I have no idea to be honest the season isn't over

He's certainly doing better now, but given the investment and the fact we have an ambitious millionaire Blackpool fan as the owner i would say we are probably about par in what the seasons target was

We can’t possibly have the 3rd highest wage bill in this league when Sunderland, Charlton and Ipswich quite clearly have much larger budgets than us. Then there’s Peterborough, Hull, Portsmouth and even MK Dons who would likely be spending similar if not more on wages. Add Doncaster, Bristol Rovers, Plymouth and Lincoln into that scenario too as they’re all well supported or historically well funded clubs at this level.
Even if we DO have the 3rd highest wage bill then looking at the clubs I’ve named above we certainly won’t be outspending our rivals to a significant degree.
Our budget (massive, medium or small) doesn’t change the fact that Critchley has transformed this squad and some of these players in a very short period of time and is doing an excellent job.

If Stewart is on 6k per week that would mean we were over £300,000 under the salary cap at the point we signed him... which would suggest we’re most definitely NOT amongst the highest 3 spenders in this league.
