Who remembers Jack Holden who used to be a commentator on Radio Lancashire in the 80’s.
Like Chizzy, he was an ex headmaster and was a real wordsmith. Think he only covered Blackburn Rovers matches and was biased towards them as he was a fan. He was a true gentleman and well spoken. I used to enjoy listening to him.

Totally Rovers. Started on Radio Blackburn and never lost that total bias

Knowledgeable guy who was allowed to dominate the football on Radio Lancs. He seemed to get about 75% of the air time to talk about his beloved Rovers and the rest of the teams in the area were just given scraps. Not his fault of course but that's how it seemed to be.

Anyone remember Richard Dinnis on Radio Lancs. Also didn't they have a really fat bloke that used to commentate who fell through a seat at Bloomfield Road? Sure I remember that being discussed as a kid.
Phil Sayer used to do the train times announcements on Leeds station!
Richard Dinnis is my brother in laws dad and often see him on Christmas Day . Quite a career he’s had including managing Newcastle and in The USA.

Think the big guy was called jones

The really fat bloke was called David Jones and he used to get accused of bias towards us. He famously turned up on the Blackpool team coach for a match at Turf Moor which didn't go down well with the locals, seeing that he was doing the commentary.
Norman Shakeshaft only did Preston and his catchphrase was 'Norman Shakeshaft back to the studio' delivered in full Lancashire drawl every time he signed off which was about 6 times in a game sometimes if it wasn't a full commentary. I didn't hear it but apparently he was sacked for saying ' what a f**cking goal ' live on air one time when Preston actually scored. It was probably a tap in 😀
Richard Dinnis was a really good pundit on Lancs and is sorely missed. I'm sure they must have asked him a few times to come back and do the odd game because he was so good but he seems to like retirement.
Then there's Jack Holden which is what this threads about. He did do odd Burnley games but it was mainly Rovers , who he loved. He had a style and a way with words and I wish I could listen to it again somewhere because he was brilliant. I even spoke to Gerald Jackson about him who's been at Radio Lancs since it started and he said they had tried to track Jack Holden down a few times but to no avail. He lived in Glossop and I would imagine he's probably dead by now.
Some great characters on that station and at the start they used to cover Bolton rather than us. It seems to get a lot of stick on here and I do agree there is a slight bias towards PNE and Rovers compared to us and Burnley but they still do a great job. They really do stretch the budget as far as they can.
Will always miss the sounds of Jack Holden though!

Things haven't changed much. I listen to BBC RadioLancs every day. Rovers get more 'air time' than all the others put together.
I like Graham Liver (a.m. weekdays 06.00-10.30) but, born in Lancaster, he's a Rovers fan. So they're always mentioned.

The “fat bloke” was probably David Jones.

That's a bit of an exaggeration but there is slightly more on Rovers and PNE. For example Alex Neil got sacked on a Sunday and they immediately changed the schedule and called all the pundits in for a 1 hour special on the Sunday night. They would never have done that for us.

That’s a fair report about Jack and the rest of the team. I’ve always liked BBC Radio Lancashire for their football coverage. They do now endeavour to cover all the league teams in the Admin Lancashire area.

But there is a demand for this sort of programme.
PNE fans will listen because ‘on the whole’ thats what they wanted - Neil out -. Fans of other local teams will listen out of scorn for the team they hate and want a laugh! However for us he was doing a great job so we wanted him to stay! 😂
