Jake Daniels - every credit

I've worked with many gays over the years & never given it a second thought. Unfortunately with sport, especially the tribalism that encompasses football, Jake could still get plenty of chanting grief. Until he's transferred to their club, scores his first goal & becomes a hero.
Don't we all love the shallow hypocrisy of being a football fan. I'm one, no one was more tainted that Tony Ellis until he scored his first BFC goal.

Reaction from Spurs fans

Fair play to the lad 👍 proud to be a Seasider!
My youngest lad has shown some of the comments on Twitter (I don’t do Twitter) most of the hate coming from the Middle East and the occasional nobber!
Some people and cultures are still way behind in the Stone Age!

Its not a great look though coming from our captain

I thought when i first heard the Jake announcement that there would be a media circus around him and the club

Real shame this

It is a shame, but might be forgotten, too much is made of stuff people post online years ago, especially when they were young, we've all been clueless dicks at some point.

Jake's story is a great advert for the club and a massive step for the gay community and one of it's last remaining taboos.

It really doesn't matter if he's gay or not

What i do feel surprising is that he would want to create a media circus around himself when he's just starting off in the game

Good luck to him though
Jeez Phil......I suggest you read your second sentence again.I very much doubt that is what he wanted to do but unfortunately we still have a media that thrives on making this a circus.

Maybe just maybe it takes a considerable weight off his mind so he can concentrate on what clearly he does best and that is try to make the most of his footballing potential.

Marv was 15; heading towards the "should have known better"

He will speak to Jake, clear it up.

He will then issue a statement, saying "I was a 15 year old kid, in a toxic masculine environment, trying to fit in; precisely what makes Jake's coming out, so admirable and brave.

The things I said then, are not who I am today, I've spoken with Jake to offer him my full support and to explain why I now know I was wrong
"

And we all move on and start thinking about who is the next signing.

Unbelievable response from the football world to BFC's tweet .. wonder if Jake has left his social media on tonight .. he's gone from a few hundred followers to over 6000 in an hour!
TSSJr1 has had loads of Instagram conversations with him in the past; he's messaged him to say words to the effect of, "well done mate"

Not sure he'll ever get a reply now!

In praising Jake for his integrity we can also praise the family spirit of our family club whereby he feels confident and secure in being himself. My wish is that next season he will do a Fred Pickering against the ancient foe!
Exactly.

Look at some of the comments on th twitter from many clubs.

Man u, Liverpool, City, Chelsea, Tottenham etc and many many more.

Also from the Premier league, fifa, uefa etc.

This is huge.

Also full interview and reaction on sky.

Neville and Carragher on sky reaction

Great comments from Carragher about Critch and the club setting an example.

It's "news" because the mentality in football - in the changing room and in the stands - lags behind rugby and cricket, where there've been gay players for years.
But it's commendable 'cos the more football players that come out, the more it becomes commonplace and ultimately not actually worthy of focusing on.

And as Jake says, it's nothing to his teammates, 'cos that generation are open and inclusive, they don't give a stuff.
If anyone is going to have trouble handling it, it's older neanderthals.

Well said. The stupidness of being young.

Well done Jake, hold your head high and proud.

A more general thought. As said above there will be many gay professionals in the game who haven't yet spoken openly about it. How many of them aren't fulfilling their maximum football potential, or any other sports for that matter, because of pressure they may feel under. They're obviously good, they're professionals, but maybe could get even better.

Jake has hopefully given at least some of them reason and strength to make the decision. For himself, I've only seen him play a handful of times. If there was any slight impact on his play, then he hid it very well! But exciting now to think how good he could be, and hopefully with us.

That has taken some courage …… big season ahead !
I was just saying to my boys; he's got to have a bit of confidence in his ability as everyone will be looking at him.

I wonder whether he knows he's going to be staying here next season; I can't see us loaning him out when he's going to be under the spotlight a bit more?

Then again, if he just wants to play football, it might not matter now.
