Jerry & Gaz

Outstanding partnership, never give the opposition a minutes rest. They give us a foothold in every game and today they paved the way for the great end to the game.

Jerry may not be scoring, but today he was immense in his running down the opposition, tracking back and general link play. The goals will come and perhaps he needs to be a bit more selfish in situations, but what team players him and Gaz are.

Good team performance but I think Jerry was not at it today. Also taking his soft shot early on against Lavery’s finish late I know who I would play of the two alongside Madine.

Work rate is fine but we cannot carry a striker with no goal threat.

ran his socks off as he always does but he missed what seemed an easy chance early on. Desperately needs a goal for his confidence. Madine won so much in the air and he was good on the deck with his link up play too so yep he was my mom.

I thought Jerry was immense today. Closing down and tackling back. The goals will come. He just needs a little bit of luck to go his way. Also thought his booking was outrageous. He simply dropped the ball.he didn't throw it away. And don't get messing about the referee. He gave them free kick after free kick for absolutely nothing and let them get away with foul after foul. Disgusting!!!!!!!!!

Well we’ve seen often that Gaz and Lavery doesn’t work and Gaz gets frustrated.

You can't compare the two chances

That was a shocking decision, Jerry dispossessed the lad and he threw himself to the floor, the ref bought it.

I know our squad are happy for each other whenever one of them isnt playing they support the lads that are playing but I just hope Jerry isnt a little bit down on a personal note that Lavery came on and scored straight away.I thought Jerry was brilliant today, really sharp, dropping deep winning possession and sending CJ away down the left. Some of his passing today was superb. That dribble he went on second half I thought he was going full on Maradona for a minute.

I think Madine's best game for us, certainly of this season. He really is a different animal when there's a winger going to the dead ball line. He has both aspects then- holding the ball and attacking it.

Yates ws just superb. The work he does to prevent their play developing is second to none.

The Wasp scored. Why? Because he had the ball in his area, not out wide, not competing for 10/90 balls with a giant of a CH.

That team would have thrashed QPR.

I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve posted on here that Madine is one of the best target men in this division and defenders can’t cope with him.

He’s not pacy and not tricky, but as a fulcrum he’s bloody good at what he does. It’s why he’s Critchs go to guy over a Lavery / Yates partnership.

Both wide men got much more service from him today and he opened up space for Jerry time and time again.

Exactly this. Yes, Jerry needs a goal but he was outstanding today. Good team performance and high time we scored a few to justify our attacking threat.

Readings centre backs will wake up screaming with Madine nightmares tonight. Outstanding performance from him today. I also liked the corner second half when they tried to crowd Grimshaw and Madine went and got in the middle of them (and won the header).

... and, for me, that was the difference and whilst I realise you have to rotate the squad and Lavery has been a great addition, I wonder how many more points a Jez and Gas combo would have got us if we'd started it in the majority of games.

I hope Beesley keeps learning from him. His touch to CJ for the final goal was neat and if Beesley can be ready to be our main target man next season and can understand the strength required to dominate Championship centre backs then we will be well set.

"one of?"

Agreed Madine and Yates worked there defence non stop yesterday, I would stick with it for now with Lavery off the bench to reap the rewards of a tired back line.
I’m fine with that, Jerry and Gaz clearly work well together, but wasn’t Lavery’s goal a proper strikers goal, loved it, the determination to put the ball in the net, nothing else in his mind! Who knows, maybe Lavery and Beasley can strike up a partnership and the options we’ll have!

Lavery's goal was from a good through ball, as was Yates' goal against Huddersfield. As we don't have very creative midfielders, we don't feed many quality balls through to these two mobile strikers. If we had a more creative midfield, both Lavery and Yates' could be minimum 15 goals a season strikers.

Won't change my mind on the point that Madine and Yates work better as a duo than any other combination but as hard as Yates works he just needs to find that goal to get his confidence going again.
I agree I would always start with that pairing even away from home. Even Paul Ince said they didnt cope with Madine all through the game. Think if Jerry scores it will push him on. I love his commitment to the cause always seems delighted when we score even when not on the pitch.

I agree with you on this 😄
