Maybe it used to be but with Simon in charge maybe we can be a bit more protective over our assets?
It didn’t used to be as far as I can remember Nick, we used to let their contract go down and go for nothing or next to nothing. i think the contracts that we offer now protect the assets, but if someone offered big big money for Yates he’d be on his way, if it was right for us too. i think that’s the point Les is making.

We would accept any bid of £1m+ for him if we don’t go up.
That’s a very good return on what we paid for him and would buy 4 or 5 players - more if we go into free transfers / wages.

Id be sad to see him go but confident we would be raiding both Div 2 and the Prem academies.

I would put his price £2-£3 million, no way accept less. Price him out of the market a little.

If you ever watched the Sunderland documentary when WIll Grigg was being bought, that springs to mind.

Peterborough paid over a £1.25 for Clarke Harris.

Good luck to the lad. Get in that shop window and score a brace in every match that is left this season. Then tell us how much you want to stay and where you would like to be next season.

Players generally don’t get noticed unless their club is doing well. We are no longer a ‘selling club’ unless of course it’s right for us. If we can get £2m, roughly ten times what we ‘paid’ for Yates then fine by me. I’m confident the money will be invested back into the club, rather than stolen as it was during the dark times. Like the majority of the lads Jerry has hit form just at the right time and other clubs will naturally be taking notice. No player is bigger than the club as the cliche goes. Many quality players has performed well for us over the years then moved on to so called bigger clubs or those in a higher league. We are still here! If he does move on then good luck to the lad. He’s a grafter, gives his all and so far has served us well after a tricky start. If the latest transfer rumours do come to fruition I’m not the slightest bit concerned. I trust the board, Critch and Simon will make the right decision for the club. If Jerry is aiming for a higher league than us, fingers crossed that needs to be a Premiership one! 🍊UTMP

£2m is nothing these days, especially for strikers who get 20 goals plus a season.
Jerry is not quite there yet but I take your point pal. Potentially a minimum of £1.8m profit, excluding salary and other previous overheads, on a good player seems like sound business to me. £4/5m even better. Just speculation anyway. What will be will be 👍

IAs much as I hope we don't, if we flog Jerry on to a championship club with prospects, as well as the money, it's a perfect advert for why young players should come to us for the sake of their future development and longer term career prospects.

let's wait till the season ends shall we? IF we manage to get promoted he won't be going anywhere.

Perhaps we should consider the player as well as the club. He's still relatively young and is only just establishing himself as a decent quality striker. Maybe, even if we are not promoted this year, he may opt to stay another season. If he has confidence in the club and is happy here I would hope that he would not be forced out for a small profit. I'm certain that wouldn't happen now anyway with the Progress(ive) club we ALL support . We are , thankfully , no longer run by, greedy, selfish callous charlatans .

If Paddy Madden goes for £250,000 to non-league Stockport at his age I would be looking at at least £5 mill., not that I want him to go!

We got £1.75M for Brett in League 1 nearly 20 years ago!! £2M?? I hope they tell em to shove it
Anything ranging between £2million and £5million plus ‘add ons’ would represent a good price for Jerry. Comparing transfers from 20 years ago with transfers in today’s market is a slightly unbalanced statement, which doesn’t consider the financial impact of Covid19. The current global economic situation we unfortunately find ourselves in, has massively affected the money clubs can spend on new players. Look at what’s happening at Anfield. A couple of years ago they were able to spend £75m on a world class defender whereas this year they have had to settle for ‘bargain basement’ players. Davies from the nobbers and a ‘try before you buy’ lad from bottom of the league german club Schalke. Different times. Only a few Championship clubs would be able to pay £5m - 10m on a single player until the money starts flowing back in, when fans return.

I hope Jerry stays for many years and becomes a bona fide legend for us. If not and he decides to leave, although why would want to, then I hope we get a good for him price that reflects the current market.

Below is link to the Championship teams’ spend on players pre and post Covid19. Of course it’s all just speculation about Jerry at moment but food for thought.

No, i'm sure that was Simon Sadler's blueprint when he came in. Not slagging it, think it's what most clubs out of the Prem do. Think how many Posh have brought in from non league and sold on for massive profit.
I have no problem with us being a selling club, probably essential if we are ever to be a sustainable top division club. The legacy of Capperos at Seville which gives them about the best global recruitment resulting in approx an average of £10m surpluses per year. They have to sell to succeed.

Even more so then this is the worst possible time to be selling anyone I hope we can keep hold and strengthen as this is evidently, and I agree with you, a buyers market.

Let's hope we get up

If there was a Utopia FC, you'd buy a player for 100k, sell for £1m. Buy 3 players for 250k and sell, maybe 1 for £2m etc etc. The excess 250k would be the owners return.

Add-ons are worthless nowadays. Too easy for the player or buying club to play the system where they do a Bright Osayi-Samuel or the club stop playing them to avoid add ons based on appearances.

Top strikers are hard to find and they make the difference so it's only full cash offers I'd think of entertaining.

Anyway, useless speculation right now, hopefully we go up and he kicks on with us in the Championship.

These threads have become a good chuckle these days. How many who criticised the manager and players and told them to f&£* off are now telling everybody else who shows any interest to buy 'em to f$*% off. 😂🤣🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣

We will sell Jerry or it was pointless bringing him in. This isn’t a tinpot club any more, we don’t get lucky with a talented player that everybody else gave up on once in 30 years. We bring in players we know will develop into what we want. If we go up then it would make the most sense to sell him after a season of Championship football, but if we don’t he’ll be gone in Summer. That will have been a massive success and a huge sign of things to come. We still bang on about Tom Ince because we just aren’t used to regularly finding talent. It’s all changing drastically for the better, in 5 years’ time Jerry’s goal tally will already have been surpassed by the next big thing mark my words.

It's all very well selling players on and making money off them, but look at Peterborough, they have a long list of players they have bought and sold on for profit
Mackail-Smith
Aaron McClean
Dwight Gayle
Britt Assombalonga
Ivan Tony
To name a few.
They have made over 50 million profit because of this dealing, but they are still a division 1 club.
I suppose it boils down to what's more important, money in the bank or league position.
