Jerry Yates

God yes! I hope this season is when some stop adulating this guy. He's been a drain on the wages for years and bar the occasional goal he is pretty useless. As much as people berate Nuttall, at least I can see he does have something about him whereas Fonz just has a quirky nickname!
He comes over as s really nice guy but no end product too often

disagree I think Delfounso has been the man to pick the team up at low points and drive us forwards, especially away from home.Obviously the idea is to replace the likes of him with younger players but I think this stick he seems to have been getting the last six months is not really fair to a good servant for this club.

Don’t quite get the hype around him tbh and if this is our marquee signing I’ll be a little disappointed.

Rotherham certainly weren’t interested in him last season and loaned him out.
Yes he had a decent goal return in league 2 but even Hardie is good in that league.
He could turn out to be a good signing but I’ve got a feeling some of our fans will treat this as a wow signing and there will be a bit of pressure on him to hit the ground running.

I won't necessarily be disappointed as it's clearly someone we've targeted to improve us, but I generally agree that we seem to hype up players just because we're after them. Then it becomes this big saga, where people are inexplicably desperate to sign the player without any thought to if he's any good. He's unproven in league 1 let's not forget. In fact I think the guy from Burton is the only one we've signed who has league 1 experience.

Why are you writing off Grant Ward so easily.??
He just seemed like a bit of an odd signing by Grayson. He was awful when he played and we have three other players who play the same position. Hopefully he'll turn out great but I reckon he'll be off soon.

Just reading local paper and it states Rotherham have received an offer for Yates from Blackpool and they have rejected it. However, reading between the lines I think they are expecting an improved offer from the pool.

We didn’t meet their valuation, which is most likely overpriced. Maybe we can meet half way. The Swindon interest isn’t helping either.

Bored of all this Yates 'will he / won't he ' sign. Fuck him and look elsewhere, he'll always have that big club in Wiltshire to join.
Whilst I agree with your sentiments, it’s not yet up to him. Rotherham have rejected our offer, so talks will not start with the player until we have agreed on a fee, or not. I am also sure we have other irons in the fire Critchley is too wise to pin all his striking hopes on one, possible, signing. Be patient things will happen all in good time.

I haven't got a personal opinion of the player as I know little about him. The fact that this has been going on for a couple of weeks now suggests either Rotherham are being greedy or Yates doesn't want to come. Move on in my opinion.

Rotherham will drop their asking price according to Scafters Swindon instalments bid wont work Rotherham want cash upfront

it was the ‘fuck him he’s always got that big club in Wiltshire to join’ bit which did come across a little bitter, my mistake if I misinterpreted 😂

What's the rush transfer window hasn't officially open yet the Championship is still ongoing and we don't even know when next season starts.

Swindon putting in a worse offer is quite funny. I get they can't afford a bidding war but that sort of behaviour could surely cheese Rotherham off a bit. The other club rumoured to be interested was Sunderland but that has cooled. I think we are in a strong position to stick to our valuation.

We cannot talk to Yates as an offer hasn't been accepted.

Rotherham being greedy then? They have a player who has a certain valuation, they want as close to that then how is that greedy?

You may have a house worth 150k, I'll offer you 80k. If you don't accept then you are greedy?

Newbury One head on the nail pal 👍 were a proper club nowadays one of the most ambitious in this division and money will talk

The longer the impasse goes on, the stronger our bargain g position. It is obvious that Rotherham do not believe he has a future there, and as the Championship and Premier league finally close many other strikers will be available on frees or year long loans.
They could be stuck with a player who wants away and his value to Rotherham will reduce dramatically if they do not sell him this window.

It is all well and good saying we should get rid of certain players, but we need to sign better replacements first. And for those under contract , they won't be budged unless they have got an alternative option elsewhere

Personally think it would be a good signing and he'd definitely add to the squad,Rotherham need to be realistic though also he's had one good season in league 2 i'm pretty sure we could attract better players than Yates and he's one i wouldn't be paying over the odds for.

I'd personally spend the money on a different position. Hardie had similar success in League 2 last season and he is our player ! With a good pre season and an attack minded coach behind him, he could really shine next season !

I'm already bored of this saga. Not exactly a player who we should be on tenterhooks wondering if he's going to sign or not. I hope we don't pay over the odds for anybody in this climate. For once we have the upper hand .

Personally I’d look abroad for this position. Most English forwards are massively overpriced, and the ability doesn’t match the price tag.

I think Rotherham have a cheek for asking so much from a league 1 club for a player they didn't deem good enough for league 1!
I'd be amazed if they didn't come down on this, they will want to get him off their books ultimately, and we really should be holding firm.
The seller doesn't decide the value, the buyers do. Something is only worth what people are prepared to pay. They may decide not to sell of course, but if they do want to, they will have to think again about their valuation otherwise they'll be paying his wages for much longer unecessarily.

Grant Ward was a really good player before his injury it just depends how he has recovered both physically and mentally. If he is back to full fitness and his head is straight then NC may certainly be able to bring the best out of him. If not then he will be shipped out I would guess.

100% agree, they are basically asking for a fee when more than likely he would have been released for free if his loan spell had been average. Truth is, we did the same with Nottingham so it's just what clubs do.

If NC has had him scouted and thinks he is better than what we have and will fit into his system we should get him but not at a silly price. As others have said we have a player in Hardie who has similar goal-to-game ratio. Whilst I'm no fan of Hardie we should either give him a go or get him sold to help fund someone NC rates.

He either signs or doesn't, no need for a tizz.

It's just this one seems more public than we are used to, for some reason.

There's no need to panic on this one. The fact that Rotherham have put a price on him indicates that they want to sell. If Swindon really want him they will stump up the cash. It is a similar situation to Ryan Hardie. He has shown that he can score goals League 2 but can he step up to League 1? If we get a decent offer we might sell or NC might see some potential and want to give him a chance.

There's no need to rush. It's a buyers' market -- it's just that not everyone has realised that yet. If they want to sell, they'll come back to us.

Simon Sadler may have plenty of money, but we don't want him to get screwed. It's time to establish a reputation as a shrewd negotiator, which I'm sure he is.

I’m bore of people being bored with this. We don’t even know for sure when the season is going to start. The transfer window isn’t even officially open. We don’t know when/if there’ll be fans in grounds. People need to get lives, let this and other transfers happen or not happen.

Player valued at £X. Selling club wants £X+100, buying club offers £X-100. Going rate for striker is £Y. Player asks for £Yx10 buying club offers £Y÷10.
So who thinks this is the first time this has ever happened? 😀
