Jerry Yates

Player valued at £X. Selling club wants £X+100, buying club offers £X-100. Going rate for striker is £Y. Player asks for £Yx10 buying club offers £Y÷10.
So who thinks this is the first time this has ever happened? 😀
I always thought the first contact we had with a players was 10 mins before he signed.

The actual formula is this insy-
11x + 3x ² – 1 = 0 where 0= a deal 😁

I think Rotherham valued Yates at £500,000 and we were rumoured to have bid £250,000. Last I heard Swindon had matched our bid, but I don't know whether that is still in instalments or all up front. At the end of the day it will be up to the player. If he wants to stay at Rotherham they can't force him out, because he is under contract. If they want rid and he says he will only move to Swindon, then Rotherham may accept Swindon's bid, which might not be quite as good as ours!

Hodder - if our bid is more than Swindons but both are acceptable then he will be given permission to talk to both clubs. And any player and his agent would want to see what was on offer from both clubs before making a decision. He would have nothing to lose by doing so

It is not always down to money. If the player has set his heart on going to Swindon, because he likes the manager and the way they play, then for the sake of happiness he may be willing to accept less. Just saying!

If Rotherham want 500k for Yates they can jog on.

Hope we pull out of this.
Put it this way I bet if the only offer on the table was 250k from Swindon he’ll be off.

I don't think that a Dutch auction for a lower league player is the way to go.
By way of contrast, we heard nothing from Charlie whilst we were trying to buy him but once it had happened he truly was our man.

I don't think that even Rotherham believe they will eventually achieve £500,000 for Yates, it is just their starting point. They will have to settle for less in the end!

I wouldn’t be disappointed if we got him in January for a knockdown price, as a thank you to them for doing the same with tilt.

Is this all an irrelevance until next Monday or can we do the negotiating now and sign him next Monday?

Sorry to be pedantic, but a Dutch auction is one were the bids start off high and end up low.

Alan Nixon has just said...

" Blackpool. Winners in the Jerry Yates race. Fee sorted with Rotherham. Shame for Swindon. But Rotherham happier with structure of Blackpool payments and add ons. "

Sounds like he's coming!

Wouldn’t probably be fussed about a trip to Swindon (who would be ?!) but this year I may have to make that drive down to Wiltshire. I see a little rivalry forming and if Wellens sticks around down there it could be a cracking game of football with a little bit of an edge to it too.

Hope we get KDH for a season long loan, but I would suspect there would be a few after him if he was available.
Unfortunately it's in everyone's interests except ours for him to play in at least the Championship next season. Would love us to get him but I hope no one's expecting it.

Seems like a lot of Argyle fans are replying to Alan Nixon hoping that this means they can get Hardie...

Hopeful we manage to keep him, if the Yates deal does get done then we've a good stable of strikers.

We're a couple of CB's and a Kiernan Dwsbury-Hall away from looking like a good outfit.
I too want to also give Hardie a go under Critchley and as competition for Yates if we sign him. If he then doesn't make the grade we can then send him outvin lian, but not to another L1 club

I wouldn't totally write the option off. I'm sure we will enquire about KDH although I suspect there will be a queue of Championship clubs wanting him on loan.

The KDH comment was a bit tonged in cheek... I do think we need we need players to replace KDH and Ronan though.

Our scouting of the U23 league seemed to work last season so hopefully we can uncover some gems again, loans make a massive difference at this level.

If he does end up coming here, I hope there isn't the instant expectancy of 30 goals a season. He's a young lad who will have learnt so much from being in the Championship with Rotherham and then free scoring at Swindon that to come to a League One side will be interesting to see how he fares. Very happy though as just the sort of ''Jamie' Vardy' type player we should have been signing.

Ronan might have more of a chance actually and he was pretty good too. But Critchley will want his own players.

We definitely need to replace those two in midfield. Not sure Sarkic will play centre mid, probably more out wide and off-the-striker. So we still need at least 2 or 3 midfielders so Virtue isn't the only option

Some hefty page views on some of these threads (think you can only see them on laptops) 19k on this one! Anyone would think we've been starved of football for months!! Come on Jerry .. get your pen out!!

Of course if we all knew the 'several players' that we were looking at, maybe Yates might not be the best of them. Think I'm happy to let this one ride out as I get the feeling Critchley is the sort of man who will be relishing in this transfer market and won't leave a stone unturned.

Would be interesting to know who the alternatives were and if his signature means an end to our interest in them.
