He's announced today that he's just been diagnosed with Cancer and faces a tough battle ahead.
Recently on Soccer Saturday as a reporter but also the voice of darts and Lancashire Cricket for years.
He's on Twitter and very accessible and will more than appreciate any good luck messages if you've got a little time to spare.

Sad to hear. Always thought with his booming voice that he'd be the last person you told your secrets to if you had any. Not on twitter but wish him well.

He used to host the Player of the Season awards at the club. Nice fella

Always remember his “and Blackpool’s defence collapsed like a wet deck chair” on Radio Blackburn (as it was) after a 2-0 (?) defeat at Ewood - insightful and concise John Gwynn is a lyrical poet and a voice full of Northern warmth and wit - get well soon Sir.

Remember he covered quite a few Blackpool game - always charismatic and a joy to listen to. Hope he recovers from it.

Wish him well. The voice of multiple sports for most of my 45 years. Real pro and a distinguishable voice that exudes enthusiasm.

Just seen this, sorry to read about JG and hope he recovers as soon as possible.
As many have said , a very distinctive voice indeed, and enjoyable to listen to every time
When he is summarising, I like the way his voice gradually becomes more excitable and enthusiastic as his report gores on. Glad he feels he can carry on for now. He always sounds to me as if he loves what he is watching
