As we have a lot of music fans on here I thought I’d share this with everyone who doesn’t do social media (obviously this is social media before someone points it out to try and be clever)
Just found out John Lydon and PIL are playing the O2 ritz Manchester on the Sunday the 28th December and I’ve got my ticket tonight as I’ve only just found out about it so I’m buzzing
Hopefully some of you are massive fans and can get tickets before they sell out if you didn’t already know about it
Obviously some of the posters on here like to get all pissed off when things like this get posted saying it should be off topic and personally I don’t read that side of the board so to keep it on topic we play home games against Doncaster on the 26 th then PIL on the 28th and Rotherham on the 29th both at home, I find Christmas a bit of a letdown for a few reasons but can’t wait for this one
John Lydon is also doing a Q &A at lowther pavilion in March so got my tickets for that and again hopefully any of you who don’t know about it can get tickets, seems a bit of an odd one JL at the Pavilion!!
Sounds like he’s sold out even more than the country life butter ad but you can’t help but love him, he’s in my top 10 of human beings ever to have lived along with my mum, Stan McEwan, Rob spragg,Brian my next door but one neighbour, my ex wife and the kids and frank sidebottom,oh and I’ll also add not that anyone really cares John Cooper Clarke

First saw PiL at Preston Guildhall in 86 and they were fantastic. But last time I saw them in London they were completely unlistenable to and so left, and vowed never again. Although to be fair was prob 15 years ago, so maybe things have changed. I just find him an insufferable knob these days, when I used to love him.

In an odd way I like him being an insufferable knob !

I ended up out for a pint with Frank Sidebottom many years ago - minus his paper mache head. We were in the Mark Addy in Manchester. After a few liveners he took it upon himself to sing a rousing chorus of "if you all hate man united clap your hands" . Quality.

28th??? Sure? I mean you could be right, you could be wrong...

That's normal behaviour round my gaff

Took my lads to see PiL @ Georges Hall Bburn 2011ish.
Both of em were a bit wary before hand but they both loved the gig.
Might try and get to the Q&A.

Ironically, when my eldest was at Uni he worked part time at the tower. One night, whilst the punk festival was on he was the lift attendant and JL chatted for a short time to him as he was going to a party at the top of the tower.

My lad said he was nothing like his stage persona, a thoroughly likable person.

yep, there is probably a huge difference between Lydon the person and Rotten the character.

I've got tickets for PIL at the O2 ritz and I'm also going to see The Skids there in March
If you haven't seen them, they're well worth seeing live.

Stan was the scorer in my first match, 1-1 draw with Graham Taylor's Watford in the old div3. I'd love the chance to tell him that!

Could be my memory playing tricks, but didn't he score a hattrick whilst having concussion and could remember nothing about it afterwards?

Saw PIL a couple of years ago - John Lydon had to use his glasses to check the running order and sit down at various points 🤣 Still a great gig though. Seeing bands of my youth they often announce a previous member has sadly passed away !. That happened last year with the Dead Kennedys. Another great gig though

Loved the skids, if it doesn’t coincide with the meet and greet John Lydon I’ll definitely go, thanks for letting me know I’ll find out, working for the Yankee dollar, charade & masquerade are on my playlist
I’ll buy you a nice overpriced warm beer in a plastic cup if you let me know when you’re in the o2 on this thread on the 28th

A bit like Stan I can’t remember!
If my memory serves me well he scored every penalty until Walsall away when he missed and I was stood behind the little wall behind the goal, Stan missing a penalty!
Gutted

I’ve seen Bowie a couple of times and the stones ,icons of music and it’s great to have seen them as they’ll go down in history as legends, gutted when Bowie died and what a totally brave way to go out finishing his last album whilst very ill
Mick probably won’t ever die he seems indestructible and Kieth.. well he’s just pickled with what he’s taken over the years, I should remember but can’t who said he’s the most elegantly wasted human being in the world,Johnny depp said his character in pirates of the Caribbean was based on him
As for John Lydon he’s not just a foul mouthed snarling anarchist he’s made great music for us all to move on from Rod Stewart and inspired a lot of musicians in a way that makes them a great listen without the need to be “punk” just excellent in a different way
He’s knocking on, overweight let’s be honest but he’s an amazing individual for many reasons
He nursed his wife Nora through Alzheimer’s she was the love of his life and they desperately wanted kids but couldn’t have them so he brought up her daughters 3 kids as his own when Nora’s daughter died ( ariane)
The singer from the slits
I didn’t think he’d tour again and never seen him live so this is brilliant opportunity
Still can’t believe he’s doing a Q&A at lowther pavilion though and I’m nervously thinking of questions to ask him!!
