Just back

For once Phil, I totally agree
Massive following, poor desire to take a game on a plate and regargarless of officials did we really expect 3 points from that ?

Garbage

Yep we looked like a team who were set up not to lose

Madine by himself with inverted wingers who can't cross the ball on their wrong foot is just stupid...

And against a team with several key players missing
Yes, I felt we set up not to lose, which is becoming a bit too regular. Sometimes it’s the right approach, but not today. They had 7 players out and we could all see that defensively they were suspect, and Madine was not the answer.

I hate Birmingham as a destination, too many work visits, the train journey, the City…. It is a hole of a place.

The Police at the end, one in particular seen on the Muckers video, hiding behind other officers after unnecessarily letting loose with his baton. I might have mentioned to him about his cowardice.

Nightmare journey back, train to Manchester hit something and was cancelled before it arrived in Birmingham. Jumped on one to Preston, off at Crewe and then a London- Manchester train to Wilmslow. I hope the Pool fans on the Preston train get home ok, no trains beyond Preston.

Great support again!

Should have had that sewn up by half time , We were miles better than them , Problem was that Our goal scorers were on the bench so we had no end product , It wasn't until they came on second half that we looked like scoring . Brum were there for the taking today , thought they were awful & we missed a good chance of getting 3 away points .
My train from Penrith 08:22 was cancelled So I ended up arriving in Brum at 2pm rather than 11:45. Train back from Preston to Penrith was Cancelled with No offer of onward travel by bus or taxi Or any help at all , Luckily I found 5 other people going to Penrith so we shared a Taxi £180 ! Home 10:15 pm

Ouch. Top effort on a pig of a day Sir. Road , rail , both infrastructures beginning to resemble third World countries although thats probably not a thing anymore

That was fortuitous 👍

Levelling up in action. And it's not just weather. There's simply a lack of any secondary infrastructure in the North.

The amount of times bowler or Mitchell end up in a decent position on their right foot and then waste it is frustrating. No need to panic but would be interesting to see bowler play on the left and if that's any better for him.

Surely the crosses are supposed to come from the overlapping fullbacks ?

I honestly don't think the initial selection was that bad. It was weird but it kind of worked for 45 minutes. Madine had a decent first half and I can see why he went for 5 in midfield in an attempt to get some central creativity and why he picked Madine to play as the forward pivot.

What I didn't like was letting Bowyer show his hand first and then just matching him up. I also don't know why Mitchell came off as he was putting a decent effort in and both getting up around Gaz and shielding the full back whereas Bowler does neither.

To me, the shape was good first half, we countered quickly and we had more threat than them. Second half it palpably needed changing earlier than it was and when the changes came, they weakened us cos our shape fell apart.

That said, bowler should have done better with a decent chance and I think, had he done so, we'd have been able to see it through.

It does feel like we set up with a side that could have rotated the three behind Madine but we didn't. We made some lovely positions and then as posted above, the crosses were wrong footed and awkward.

I agree with Phil, I don’t get the inverted winger tactic, it’s not like they ever cut in and score or put a striker through on goal. A winger should be able to get to the byline and whip in crosses on their natural foot, and we need 2 strikers, that’s why wing backs may be a better option, but we have masses (too many in my opinion) wide players when we are crying out for decent crosses into the box and a central midfielder in the Charlie Adam mode.

I also agree we were set up not to lose, which is fine, but they were the worst team we have played this season and he got his tactics wrong for once, they were there for the taking and yet their keeper didn’t have a save to make.

Defensively from the 2 defensive midfielders back we really are excellent, but in front of that we are weak and that is where things need to improve.

He does seem to have been overly cautious these last 2 away games, when both have been there for the taking. We just haven’t presented enough of a goal threat.
Hopefully he snaps out of it and gets back on the front foot ASAP

Inverted wingers are fine but to play that way you need your full backs to be exceptional - quick, good positional sense, and good delivery into the box. Liverpool are great at playing this way because they have Robertson and TAA. James and Gabriel are good, but how many times have we really seen them successfully overlap and get a decent cross in?

If you're playing inverted wingers, you need the forward to be mobile, with good movement to create space for the winger to get a shot away. Playing them with Madine up front and two full backs who can't put a decent ball in the box isn't going to work.

We didn't create much from the wide forward players for Madine as they were crossing on their weak foot

Especially Mitchell a couple of time he was at the by line and miss hit it across when Madine needs it too his head

Not Madines fault but he needs decent service as he won't out run anybody and yesterday we didn't give him the best chance to be successfully

Poor day for Critchley if I'm honest

Don’t always agree and support what you post Phil but l will on this occasion! Madine is only really effective as a goal threat when playing alongside either Yates or Lavery and vice versa. I don’t get playing the big fella for his defensive strengths and ability especially against Brum yesterday who we’re definitely there for the taking!

That's not really the point is it.....We only ever hear from you when we lose and you have a pop at Critch.
Personally, I think you have a (non) hidden agenda to have a go at the manager.....who just won an award........ for manager of the year.

Last year at this exact time we (Pool) had 27 points in League 1.......we now have 27 points in the championship.......fantastic achievement.
The guy is doing great......No matter what you say......I'm happy that Neil's in charge....but you continue to come across as a 🔔🔚

That’s absolutely the strategy.
Think Andy Robertson and Terence Trent D’Arby.
Wide men are there to cut inside and score. Full backs to bang in crosses to the Target man.
Two holding midfielders who are there to win the ball back and cover the full back marauding forward (hence why they are not expected to be creative or goal scoring)

Issue has been the wide men aren’t scoring (barring Keshi). It might be that he asks Shayne and Jerry to play that role soon? Keshi in the 10 position.
Both S & J have the work ethic to cover back and both the skill to cut inside and score or beat the man and go outside to cross.

Might be madness but could be worth a try?

Of course its the point

I would like to know what you or the other bloke doesn't agree with

Instead of just calling people names try and debate the points I'm making of a game i watched

Did you go to the match?

Whenever we’ve seen a lone striker up front we’ve struggled to score. We don’t score from midfield and the wingers don’t score either. From the initial set up yesterday it was pretty obvious without the benefit of hindsight that we were going to struggle to score.

Hope this isn’t NC getting his long term contract in the bag and now trying his experimental jazz phase. Stick to what works and please aim for consistency, barring injuries or suspensions. Setting up more defensively vs Swansea for example, was fine. Yesterday, it just felt like an opportunity wasted.

Tricky third album syndrome 😉

But Phil, you don't debate.....you don't rate Critch (no matter what you say)...and NO, I don't want to find the comments you made that said that.
I take your comments with a pinch of salt as we only see you when we lose......and it's always the managers fault.....
And NO, I didn't go to the match....being a Brummie, I wouldn't step foot in St. Andrews...but I was, listening as I was decorating.
And NO, I'm not a mushroom, stalker, super fan etc etc.

I just think you need a new string for your bow....OK, you have a view on formation and what types of passing you want to see...but your overall attitude towards Critch is exactly the same one you had towards Holloway & BST over the years...... you're becoming a bit of a cartoon character.

Nobody takes losing a game well...especially when the other team have 70% of their first team out.
But Critch is doing very well....more than any of us could have expected.....so just give him a break....and if it all goes tit's up...then you can be the first one to tell us you knew it before anyone else....

And by the way....a fan is a fan....there aren't different grades or super fans......if I think you talk bollocks.....I will say it...Just because you went away yesterday, doesn't make you a better fan.......

I know you are not a fan of inverted wingers and never have been. It is of course widely used and not just a Critch tactic.
You obviously see the weaknesses of using them and at the moment those weaknesses are glaringly obvious to us all.
The strength of the tactic is the over-lapping full back, the winger being able to cut inside and shoot on his strong foot and the opposition not knowing which way we will go.
Garbutt and Gabriel are more than competent at the over-lapping bit.
Neither of course played yesterday but that doesn't mean I'm being critical of their replacements.
Yesterday however we had 18 crosses but only 4 accurate ones.
So that's one problem.
The inverted wingers aren't that good at shooting and the decision making is questionable.
So that's another problem.
(CJ had a bit of success initially with cutting inside and shooting on target)
Where I think we have become a bit too rigid is in the apparent reluctance to swap the wingers over during the game. It's something we've done in the past but I can't recall it happening recently.
I'm sure Critch will think it was a poor day for him yesterday but at least with him you know he will analyse the performance and learn from it.
I just think generally Critch can be over cautious.

Right so you didn't go to the match, don't want to debate my points yet think its ok to call me a bell end ...

Ok got it

Yet I'm the cartoon character

I’ve been waiting 2 years to see CJ bombing down the left and centering the ball from the byline. Still waiting!

Beds, you should have demanded to see the station manager. They would have sorted the taxi. It's their legal duty but the office isn't signed and you have to search it out. It's on platform 3. It's not something they advertise.

I have done this before and got a taxi back to FY8 paid by them. £30.

They paid for taxi when train back from Nottingham was late & I missed connection . But on saturday they were refusing outright . There was also a 15 yr old girl travelling to Glasgow that they were refusing to help . I told her to find a senior police officer as it was a safeguarding issue in my opinion
