First one on the new board. Finally a win. Before I went in I'd convinced myself that it was time to win regardless of performance but to be honest, that was a bit of a curate's egg.
We started brightly, passing crisply and creating chances. Stats won't show it but we were getting wide and putting balls in without finding the man in the middle. We had one cleared off the line, Gnando went for an overhead instead of allowing Moore a free header, their player nearly sliced one into his own net, but you felt the nerves in the crowd with a subdued atmosphere all round.
We finally got to the by line through Feeney who stood it up for a close range header from Gnanduillet. The shackles were briefly released and we created a few more chances. But, the game fell into a lull, we got sloppy and a mistake by Turton should have cost us a goal.
Half time I was confident we'd push on but they came out and pushed us back without really threatening. Ronan and Dewsbury Hall were looking neat and tidy but too often their teammates couldn't control a pass or react to a through ball. Madine went off to my surprise but Delfueneso looked lively and won a penalty.
After some debate, Gnando took the penalty and rattled it into the corner. With that cushion we then played well, pinging it about and looking like we'd score a few more.
Out of the blue, they scored a worldly, that good I applauded it. At 2 1 the nerves in the crowd were back but to be honest, despite a couple of corners they didn't really threaten and we saw the game out.
I could have a lazy analogy to the amount of rubbish on the pitch but I'm better than that...
A much needed win, the new midfielders are bedding in, and a win on Tuesday will put a completely different slant on things.
Onwards and upwards.
