Kai Kai and Turton on the move

Ollie Turton has respectfully declined the offer of a new deal at Bloomfield Road and agreed a pre-contract with another club.

Nathan Shaw

Contract options exercised on:

Ben Garrity
Grant Ward

Players leaving the Club:

Neil Critchley said:

“It’s never easy making these decisions and informing players about their futures, but I would like to place on record my thanks to all those departing for their efforts in tangerine and wish them the very best of luck.

“I would also like to thank the players we’ve had on loan this season, who are now returning to their parent clubs. It’s been great to see them develop during their time with us and contribute to the success we’ve had this season.”

Good luck to them both. I guess Ollie was worried about game time. Interesting to see where he’s gone. Crewe again maybe??

sullay is a bit of a surprise but again, a big part of our season and I also wish him well.

Wow, can’t believe we are not keeping Kaikai, we’d most likely see the best of him in the Championship where he’ll get more time. Sad to see him go.

It’s the right call for Turton, I didn’t see him getting much game time at the next level. He’s been a great player for us, massively improved this year, so best wishes and thank you.

I’m thinking we might now go in for Gabriel, who I think has lots of scope.

Wonder if Turton has gone to one of the upward-looking L1 clubs: Ipswich, Sunderland, Portsmouth maybe? As for Sullay, have an inkling that he might go back to Shrewsbury ...

Kaikai really hurts personally, the first player post Oyston era that really had the potential to get fans off our feet, and on occasion he did. Yes he flattered to deceive and at times was somewhat of a luxury, but let’s not forget some of the crucial goals he scored this season. Thankyou sullay
Yep I agree with that. But as said - too inconsistent. Sublime at times but at other times invisible.

Thanks lad and good luck in your career. 👍

He's 29 in December so last chance of a big contract. As pre-contracts can be signed months in advance, bearing in mind we were mid-table at the time, I reckon it is one of the lower Championship Northern clubs like Stoke, Huddersfield or if he's been unlucky one of the relegated pair Rotherham or Sheff Wed.

With Sullay leaving who's going to frustrate the life out of me next season?
I'll hazard at guess at CJ.
A few surprises in that list but it's all about who comes in.

Gutted about Ollie.
Been our most consistent player, on lowest wage, in several positions.
Presumably offered a poor rise which is below what hes been offered elsewhere?
Good luck Ollie & thanks for your considerable efforts!

you can't sign pre contracts with english clubs so if agreed a while ago it'll be Scotland or abroad.

If fit I really really think he is. Strong and clever footballer. Fitness is the question though. I wouldn’t be surprised if he offer is structured around appearances.
Hillsy watch him off the ball. He doesn’t chase/close down. In the Championship you need everyone giving everything every game on and off the ball. He flatters to deceive.
I really hope I’m wrong but I’ve seen enough of him. If you want the entertaining attacking stuff you saw towards the end of the season, he’s not the answer.
We’ll see mate.

I presume Garrity is to get a fee for him. Be shocked if Husband and Garbutt stay. One will want full game time and I think Husband knows that he won't be playing CB in the Championship.

U really don’t think garbutt be pool number one left back next season

Madine is not Championship standard.
Disagree. I think he is definitely Chanpionship standard. He’s also the kind of player you need in a dressing room and as an option up top. I’m delighted we have at least tried to keep him, but expect he will see what’s out there before deciding.

Least it stops us from arguing over whether he's good enough for this level or not. Great servant but give us a chance to sign younger and better.

Disappointing to see Turton move on as his consistency and ability to play multiple positions was huge for us.
That being said the ability to play multiple positions becomes less important when you have a larger pool of players to pick from each week due to squad sizes.
He’s improved massively this season as is definitely a top right back in League 1. Would he be able to step up a level again and also play regularly in the Championship ?
Possibly not and a long term deal with regular football in League 1 or even the SPL could be on the cards.

Kai-Kai has bags of ability but lacks any real consistency and the fact he goes missing so often suggests he maybe lacks the mentality to play for us. We can’t afford passengers and less so in the Championship.

I feel Ben Garrity must have shown some quality and untapped potential for Critch to offer another contract at a now Championship club because he’s not exactly made headlines at Oldham. Will be interesting to watch him in pre-season now he’s had a full season as a professional.

We definitely need 2 right backs now. 1 centre back. 2 wingers / wide men. 2 attacking midfielders (or 1 and a false 9) and definitely at least 1 striker. Possibly a couple of left backs and at least 1 GK depending on how contracts pan out.

Looks like a busy summer ahead ! I didn’t think we’d see such another busy summer again but this time I suppose it’s the price of progress as opposed to the result of neglect.

Yeah fair enough, all about opinions! I’m hoping we get Simms back and if Madine does stay I suspect he’ll do plenty of hold up play off the bench to release the pressure. I suspect him staying isn’t a foregone conclusion either.

Yes I appreciate the opinion bit, hope I’m not being a bit strong.
I get that as a sub. He certainly isn’t a starter.

Madine can be a bit of a nasty bastard and ever team needs one of thoes. He's the only one we have right now. I'd be delighted if he stayed, he's also obviously a huge part of the dressing room atmosphere with him travelling to away games when he's injured. I agree he isn't a starter though.

Sorry to see 'em both go. It was great to watch how Ollie improved over the season and I think Sully would have been given a chance at the next level.

I'm not so bothered about Kaikai, he's not proven for me. Very good on his day, but how often does he have them?

Turton though - we'll need to replace him, he has made a big contribution.
