Calmed Marv down a lot next to him - Is Marv as good without him?The problem with this is probably not necessarily the player, it's what he brings to that squad.
Best for all partiesDeffo a shame, been a solid professional for us and would love him to stay. Couldn't fault him to move for family and a 2 year contract! His experience ill be hugely missed.
He was garbage against Reading with his distribution, standard head everything that moves in the box though.Calmed Marv down a lot next to him - I’d Marv as good without him?
Marv has been fine playing with Thorniley and Hubby.Calmed Marv down a lot next to him - I’d Marv as good without him?
Indeed. How about Peter Clarke as replacement? Only 40 and can still give it the full beans.Getting rid of all of our experience, we best have players lined up and imminent
Family home is in Harlow Essexjust out of interest, where do his family live? Blackpool is a fair bit nearer to Derby than Ipswich is..
Pace isn’t everything, a good football brain is worth a 10 yard headstart, it’s something instinctive that only good players possess.Best for all parties
He will easily cope in L1 whereas would be done for pace in Championship.
Did well and showed his ability
Obviously a great character in the dressing room as well, I think we’re going to need him this season on and off the pitchPace isn’t everything, a good football brain is worth a 10 yard headstart, it’s something instinctive that only good players possess.
Unlike Voy, I’m not wild about thisClear out started in ernest
I wouldn't expect to hear about much of a transfer fee in the traditional sense of turning a profit on the deal. More likely they've been talking to another club to try to get them to take on the remaining value of his contract here in full.Would be a good move for mad Uncle Richard. I'd be pleased for him (and he won't be up against us this season).
He's 36 this week, and I don't think he'd be able to repeat his high standards of last season, both in terms of injuries and keeping pace at this level.
He's already picked up an injury. The Rhys Williams loan is already starting to look like a very good one.
I think he's been excellent for us, wish him well especially if he prefers to be nearer to his family, which is fair enough
Picking up a fee is a bit of a bonus as well.
Me too - we could be moving from a fairly special group ethic to a more standard football set up. I'll certainly miss old Blakey if he goes, he's been excellent in all departments for us though I'm not surprised he isn't thinking to be here long term. It's all well and good trimming the squad but we still need to strengthen and aren't exactly pulling any trees up on that front. Losing Keogh, and possibly Maxwell, are 2 of our more experienced players who have been pivotal to our success over the last 2 seasons. I just get a bad feeling about Appleton and the bulldozer approach to what was a very happy camp. I hope by the time the window closes, which can't come soon enough in some respects, we have a squad capable of competing.
I am a big fan of Keogh so will be sorry to see him go. Agree with you though that Appleton does seem to be doing a demolition job on the squad so it will be intersting to see if he can get the better quality that we need to keep progressing. As an aside though, Appleton is no different to Critchley. He pretty much got rid of most of the squad that weren't his signings.ive never been a massive fan of Keogh in terms of his playing capability, but he has done a job for us defensively when called upon. However i do think he has a wider positive impact on the dressing room, whether that equates to a better team or not only the players and coach know, but it does bother me somewhat that MA seems to want to completely rebuild the squad. I'm all for ripping down things that dont work, as happened when the Oystons were kicked out, but since that there has been a steady development. I think ripping the heart out of the squad is a move that then has to work not just as good as last year but significantly better, and my concern would be we end up with yet another major transistion that might either fail or just not be particularly successful and then in a year or so we have to transistion again from a possibly even weaker position.
i kind of expected that MA would slot into the coaching role that aligned with a long term development goal, both on and off the pitch, but it seems we are being quite conventional, appointing a head coach who then changes everything: Man U since the sacking of Moyes have been doing this with little success.

Maybe a bit of a demolition job, but Keogh was starting to be injured a lot, undoubtably popular and I think he will eventually be a good manager.I am a big fan of Keogh so will be sorry to see him go. A new broom was always going to mean change, that I have no issue with but to do that we need to land better players than we ship out. I'm not worried about Dale, Maxwell or Lavery but we do need to do better in the transfer market. The board picked a manager who they knew was a contentious choice, they absolutely need to back him. The loans are all decent pedigree but we need to bring some quality in permanently also.Happy camp needed shaking up
Prem youngsters on loan or bought. We were good defensively but offered little going forward. Sadler wanted attractive attacking football and Appleton is trying to buy players to deliver that.
Think Maxie was not prepared to fight for his place, wanted to be no1 but Grimmie was better.
Keogh good offer for him personally, sure he will leave with fond memories.
Lavery confidence shot, a change of system might help him.
Dale never lived up to the hype
Yes but rather than looking to see who is on a free, we are talking about serious bids.A new broom was always going to mean change, that I have no issue with but to do that we need to land better players than we ship out. I can go into Rolls Royce and offer a fraction of what their cars are worth, it won't result in me actually getting one though. I totally get we need to use our money wisely but it does feel we aren't doing enough due diligence on some of our targets. All very easy to say that I suppose as no one really knows who and what we've offered.Yes but rather than looking to see who is on a free, we are talking about serious bids.
L1 players and we are prepared to pay 1 million gbp, I think that is probably a good fee for the level.I can go into Rolls Royce and offer a fraction of what their cars are worth, it won't result in me actually getting one though. Hey, I'm happy that we are looking at the likes of Brannagan, Dele-Bashiru and Barlaser, they are the sort of midfielder we are desperate for. The problem is their worth to Oxford, Shef Wed and Rotherham is probably more than their actual value. All 3 clubs are in decent financial shape also, so it's not so much about meeting what the player is worth, it's about offering what the club can't refuse. A very difficult balance because as we saw with Brannagan, even when you agree a fee, you still have to convince the player.L1 players and we are prepared to pay 1 million gbp, I think that is probably a good fee for the level.
Agree, we need some experienced players and not left with just kids, even if it’s just off the pitch and on the bench and the dressing room. Needs to be a mixture of both. Bit worried that the manager wants rid of anyone who might challenge him but hope I’m wrongObviously a great character in the dressing room as well, I think we’re going to need him this season on and off the pitch
Yes.
