Kevin Stewart signs 18 month deal

The difference is this lad was Hull's best player last season before injury and came back too late to make a difference. He is a decent signing as he is better than what we have and if he can play alongside Dougell then we could be great if we have a Charlie/KDH/GTF type player in front of them supporting the forwards, but that would mean who plays wide if we have a midfield 2? 2 wing backs? Where does that leave CJ? Maybe Ward, Kaikai or Anderson in front of the 2 midfielders?

Kenny Dougall is a very good passer of the ball !
You can be a good passer but not a naturally creative player. And moreso also have to fit within a structure where the front four are instructed to be outlet rather than promote the concept of everyone being able to chip in.

Also, this. We originally set up as a 4-3-3 which is an overly attacking formation.
It is, with good players. We were a league 1 club with league 2 players. I’m not calling the players, you just have to play to their capabilities, you can’t coach anyone beyond their talent.

I agree with this one hundred percent. In the last few games I've noticed the opposition pass into space or to an unexpected player, whereas we go for the obvious safe pass 99 times out of 100. Today, Yates back heel, Garbutt first time cross, Goal.

I think you’re overthinking things !

Hull fans say “dominant” and left expecting to walk into a Championship team.

my gut feeling is there’s something wrong with Dougall.

He does seem very much like Dougall which is no bad thing, I'm sure the pair could play together but we've got to unload a couple of our surplus holding midfielders and bring in the creative playmaker.

You may be right. But what happens next season when they’re both on the books?

I wondered that too.

It just seems odd. It's a weird time to announce it as well. As if we've just learned that there's a long term issue and want the new signing out the way before we break the news about kenny.

Who knows. It was my first thought to be honest when I read where he plays - 'what's up with Dougall'? but as no one has had any word on that, I just dismissed it...

A fully fit squad and I’d like to see:

Madine Yates
KaiKai
Steward Dougall
Garbutt Gretarsson Ballard Ekpiteta Turton
Maxwell

I think that 5-3-2 team batters anyone in this league (if KaiKai turns up)
I think CJ in place of Kaikai and not bothered how you number the formation.
Gabriel in place of Turton at home, Turton in away games.

With a fully fit side you wouldn’t play our main threat CJ? And even then Turton right wing back? No thanks.

I would play it more like this

Maxwell
Marv Ballard Iceman
Gabriel Garbutt
Ward Dougall Stewart
Yates CJ

You can still swap it around a bit and find places for:
Keshi (when hes back)
Kai Kai(if he can sort his attitude out)
Madine (Though I think he will leave and with the wing backs flying forward we may play a totally different style which doesnt rely so heavily on a frontman)
Mitchell at wing back and Garbutt in front

I don't think Yates and CJ as the top two would work but I don't know in your formation where CJ would fit in which obviously he must.

Middlesbrough and Swansea City are interested in signing midfielder Kevin Stewart on a free transfer this summer, according to Sky Sports’ Transfer Centre (13/08, 17:46).

The former Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool midfielder is on the lookout for a new club after leaving Hull City at the end of the season, following the expiry of his contract at the KCOM Stadium.

The 26-year-old joined Hull for £8m in 2017, making 78 appearances for the Tigers during a three-year stay at the KCOM, and he is now said to be attracting interest from two Championship sides.

CJ doesn't have the physicality or strength to play as a wingback. He'd get done defensively by more aggressive players. Which is really the problem with playing 5 at the back - you can't play our most effective attacking outlet - unless up front. All imo.

It’s mouth watering that we could have a midfield engine room comprising a Kenny and a Kevin.
Who was our last Kevin? Stonehouse?

If it's the same guy I'm thinking of he was a makeweight of sorts in the Andy Robertson transfer as Liverpool often try to offset transfer fees/net spend and use U23s where they can.

Klopp used him quite a lot in squad rotation in the early days for his age then, I followed Liverpool a fair bit at the time and everybody wished he was just a little bit younger when he started to breakthrough for them. If he has developed steadily since then, he will be an excellent addition.

Played at wing back for a large chunk of his career at Manny

After watching the video which BHOK put up I can see that Kevin Stewart is a good player, he can pass with both feet and can tackle too, how he will fit in to the team I don’t know but it’s not my job to worry about that .
Also has creative flair, strong defender, quick to tackle, wins the ball, is a team player and not afraid to shoot when he sees a chance.

Looks an excellent fit to me after watching the highlights video.

I just hope he still has the hunger...

Gabriel was outstanding today I thought.
He's a very endearing player who tries to make things happen and I like that. I liked him in the Ipswich game, where even though he had a bit of a mare and we were shite, he was still running hard at them long after the game had gone. That's what you want to see. I'll forgive errors cos they happen but I get annoyed at some of this lot for not risking a run or a pass sometimes and Gabriel is never guilty of that. Always backs himself, always gives a lot.

Hard agree. Some of the tackles he put in today were second to none too.

How many squad places have we used up now? Feel like we might see another 2 signings.

Waiting until the end of the window can be a good thing - usually drives down prices as clubs/ players start to panic

It wouldnt wok playing as we do now BUT we would be much more fluid with the wing backs and the mobility of Yates and CJ could just work up top.

There was a moment in one of the recent games that defined him to me. He picked it up, went down the flank, got tackled, but he was running so hard he did an actual cartwheel, changed direction and ran back to defend in more or less one movement. He's got character as a player.

I think we're obsessed with ranking players as 'good/not good' and actually the truth changes week on week and sometimes character matters more. I made no secret of the fact I loved Gnando. That wasn't cos I *actually thought* he was an incredible player. I just loved his attitude. He didn't give a fuck. He just did what he did and therefore, it didn't bother him if he missed, he just did it again. That worked for him. He didn't give a fuck if you thought he was shit or not and that made him so much better than a player who legged it about trying to look like a footballer but with no thought in his head about his own game.

I see a very different player in Gabriel but the same desire to just play as he plays. I don't think it really matters what you say to Gabriel. He'll just leg it down the right, throw himself into tackles, go on mad runs. He just plays like that.

When I look at say, Ethan Robson, I see a player who is pretty good but who hasn't really got that sort of defining character to impose on a game. He's perfectly good, but what actually is he?

We're full I think, but Keshi will be dropped from squad as out for the season so one place. Could be wrong about that. Dunno if that means we can drop his wages though, so that's a factor.

Don’t think Ellis counts cos of his age and we’ve lost Woodburn, Kemp so I thought we had space? Happy to be corrected tho
