L1 will be like Morecambe/Tranmere

Sadly we have spent more time in this league than any other whilst I've been following Blackpool and we'll have more games like yesterday than like we did against Barrow. Why we need to be more clinical with chances. I thought we created some nice stuff last night but those chances have to be put away and I think Beesley falls below what we need in that area. Felt very pre-season to me and you could tell from the pattern of play that Critch was constantly changing what he was trying to do - trying a few bits out.
Feels like we're maybe 2 weeks behind with this pre-season - certainly feels we're a bit under-prepared for the opening game a week on Saturday. That said, I'd expect Grimshaw, Ekpiteta, Lyons, Trybull and Carey to merge in to that team from last night and would like to think we will bring in someone alongside Lavery. Be an interesting next 10 days.
Credit to the fans as well - turned up and made some noise.

Didn't Wrexham beat Man United yesterday.
Anyone who reads too much in to pre season isn't right.

Like the person last night who shouted get Thompson out of this club instantly after he'd been booked.
United put out a team of kids but I get your point.

Pre-season results are meaningless.

What counts is what happens from the 5th of August onwards.

Big positive to take from pre-season is that Shayne has been scoring, feel like he's got around 6 (behind closed door games included) which will do his confidence the world of good after a disappointing year for him last season.

I am certainly of the belief we need another striker.

Agree they are meaningless but they do give an indication of how it's going to be,it also shows what positions need strengthening

Agree another striker definately needed and maybe a winger

Friendlys are for getting minutes in the tank that’s all,all the work towards the new season goes on when at the training ground as it does each week throughout .we have some right bedwetters as fans

Weve only one functioning striker at the minute cos Beesley is not at the races. Critch admitted to Andy Bayes that he brought him to the club (and we paid 300k plus add ons apparently) and Im struggling to see why. But he's been out injured for a long time, maybe games will see him improve.

We definitely need one more striker in though and maybe 2.

Agree, which is why I don't really understand all the hype about Moxon. IF we have enough money for both Moxon and a quality striker then great, but looking at some of the figures being banded about on here, it looks more like an either/or to me

It is always disheartening when you don't win even in friendlies but I genuinely can’t remember us ever having a good pre season. It’s just a way to get players fitness back to normal before the season starts more than anything

We beat Everton in the preseason we got promoted to the Prem

“Felt very pre-season to me”

Youre joking?

We drew 1-1 at Morcambe two summers ago prior to the season where we finished 16th in the Championship. I was there and wondered how we'd cope in the Championship if we could only huff and puff at Morecambe. New signings Bowler and Lavery came on as subs and livened things up and we wondered if they should get in the first team. They came on as subs again at Bristol on day 1 and Bowler set Lav up for a late equaliser.

League 1 is a tough slog, where often the better footballing side can come out of a game empty handed.

However, I really don’t read too much into pre season. The factors compared to the league games just aren’t the same, so it’s difficult to compare.

Fitness levels, players not putting in 100% to avoid early injury, smaller crowds/friendly atmospheres…

As others have pointed out, pre season results and indeed performances often don’t match finishing positions in the league.

That being said, as glad as I am that Shayne is notching and regaining confidence in front of goal- we need another frequent goal scorer. Whether that will be Joseph, a new striker on loan brought in a bit later, an attacking mid or even a winger, time will tell.

Preseason means next to nowt.

Our first 11 was leading the majority of Liverpool's first 11 at Anfield. We were 3 goals up against Everton. We looked that good my old who is the biggest pessimist going put a bet on us to win the league. The season started and we looked like we didn't know how to play football in the opposition's half for 11 games.

We haven't even put out our strongest 11 yet so we don't need to worry too much , Thompson is the only negative atm and his concentation/temperament and maybe Husband I thought struggled at the end of last season so will be interesting to see how he starts the season but other than that I think we are good to go , we have enough now across the middle to have more possession
