Labour Reshuffle

You could argue it’s a waste of billions having armed forces altogether.

But I wouldn’t like the French to fight my battles that’s for sure.
But I don't argue that Jaffa. This isn't the cold war. Threats today come from rogue states and terrorists. Britain, with its high end technology needs to provide a highly professional, well trained, well equipped forward defence force as part of a multi'national defence force, based on NATO, 5 Eyes and the EU. Small nations with nuclear arms are pointless. Leave them to China, Russia and the USA. They'll never be used.

No, what we need is 200 billion sinking in to a weapon we'll never use so we can still look important.

It's a pointless waste of Billions that could be better spent elsewhere, including better targeted spending on defence.
Looks like they're calling in the Army to administer booster jabs. Maybe they would have been better spending that money on actual health care staff?

Labour had utterly failed to promote the environmental agenda (or even take it remotely seriously) for as long as I can remember. It's the reason I finally stopped voting for them around 16 years ago. In demoting Ed Miliband they've shot themselves further in the foot, but at least he retains that part of his role and will bring professionalism, integrity and intelligence to it. Labour are going nowhere under Starmer, he's been a colossal disappointment and needs to go but, he won't and the immoral self serving toe rags currently in power will land another five years on the gravy train.

Mark, you're a good poster but here you've gone completely rogue! The only way to get this Etonian, entitled Tory crap out of Downing Street is to vote Labour. Starmer is taking steps to ensure an electable Labour Government. He's got good people on his front bench, including Ed Miliband. For goodness sake man, get back on board.

He has an opinion, respect it.

Seriously 66, I've held and adhered to socialist principles all my life but what I've seen up close and personal from Labour in recent years has been downright depressing. My A list topic is Environment and has been all my life. No political party took it remotely seriously until they thought appearing to do nothing might be a vote loser. Labour has been abject on the brief with the exception of Michael Meacher all those years ago. Now Ed Miliband who has been trying his heart out around COP 26 gets his brief halved in the reshuffle. Starmer is clearly terrified of Angela Rayner, someone I respect. I have never and will never vote Tory, the only member of my extended family over genrations not to do so as a matter of course. But Labour has failed and failed and failed again and has an uncanny knack of damaging itself when other elements of the establishment are queueing up to save them the bother. They should boot Starmer without delay and bring in someone competant with integrity who can also communicate like Andy Burnham. I've met him briefly and I believe he's a good 'un. Then I would think again.

Excellent post Mark. With you for most of that. I can't help but see Starmer as this generation's Neil Kinnock; needed to get Labour back on an electoral footing.
Alas, I think Raynor is the wrong person at the wrong time. The important thing is to get Labour elected. Only then should there be any blood letting about who's doing what.

Starmer will get rid of the left and move the party right of centre in a cunning move to make the Lib Dem’s look like Commies.👍🇬🇧

I actually think Yvette Cooper is a capable annd decent politician (one of the few left). If she and David Milliband had led Labour at the right time they could have been a decent party and an an electable opposition. Instead we got the duffer Ed Milliband and he allowed Corbyn to be elected leader with the lurch to the left

That will mean no more meat/bacon sandwiches for him, Vegan from now on! 🤪
Wise move by Milliband. With buck teeth like that I'd imagine it's very difficult to bite the ham slices in a sandwich, they'd be left flapping in the breeze.
